If that's the case then how come nobody was reported as being on the train? Can't imagine that during the evening rush hour.
Perhaps it had just terminated, got half way along the platform and the fire alarms rang...

Well, that's typical local TV reporting for you. I think what they meant to say was that passengers on the main Manchester Piccadilly station area were not allowed to proceed to platforms 13 or 14 to catch services that normally use these two platforms. I was too late to hear the main part of the newsflash where passengers who were actually on the train were spoken of.
175s would indeed terminate on the through platforms after North Wales Coast runs
They then proceed a short distance out of the station area and park on a line next to the retaining wall that runs parallel to Temperance Street in Ardwick. until it is time for them to run the service back to Llandudno.
Arriva Flames & Fails? Gwasnaeth bonfires?

Mayfield loop
Has this type of occurrence ever happened previously to any Class 175 unit?
Sounds like arriva are being tight on the maintenance again. I think the Dft need to be asking some very serious questions as to the quality of Arriva's maintenance on these units as it isnt the first time one of these has caught fire under Arriva's care.
They are maintained by Alstom for Arriva.
