The rough bit of the mml :) it jumps in a M?K3, so it would be epic in a bouncy pacer

The Far North may be a Pace Too Far for me! My favourite pacer line was the Esk Valley and I'd like to do this again. Actually I think the S&C would be a good line to be worked by pacers if someone could get their act together and run some sort of express Leeds > Glasgow service on this main line. That would mean cutting out the intermediate stops and a pacer on a 2-hourly Skipton > Carlisle local would be ideal in terms of capacity and visibility.

It's hard to beat a nippy start out of Leeds over all the points heading for the severe gradients on the line to Bradford, followed by the screeching round the reverse curves down into the Interchange, but this is something that can already be done.

Giving a southern perspective, I'd like to try the South Wales Main Line right through to the west (probably Pembroke Dock for the views), and through the Seven Tunnel into Bristol, using the Swansea District for some unlikely free running... oh, hold on a sec. I've done all that. And with none other than our very own Thumper for the stretch between Carmarthen and Cardiff! :D

I'd love to see on on the Sheffield Supertram route from Cathedral to Meadowhall. All them gradients and sharp curves would be amazing!

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(

agree on the Leeds - Bradford. A favourite on my irregular visits!

As to your S and C idea its a good one! A decent refurb spec with high backed 2 plus 2 and some carpet and tables on the local run and then maybe a 4 car 170 formed of 2 2 car units calling Shipley, Keighley, Skipton, Appleby, Carlisle, Lokerbie and Carstairs, deviding there with one portion to Motherwell and Glasgow and the other to Haymarket and Edinburgh. As Northern and Scotrail already jointly opperate some services through carlisle this partnership could be used again with units in a special livery with route branding and both companies logos along with the TS one.

I'd send the Merseyrail seated sets... down the Merseyrail tunnels where they belong.

From Darlo to Kings Cross. Just for the novelty of arriving into Kings Cross on a Pacer. Prefered type would be a 142 as found pottering around the North East.

would love to do S&C, i love the jointed sections on hallam line on huddersfield service (doesnt stop at elsecar) very fun.

I'd love to do the KWVR very curvy and unfortunately (for me as civil maintenance) quite a few dippy sections.

Any line is a good line for a Pacer :)

Seriously, I wouldn't mind doing the S+C on a round trip from Newcastle on a Heaton based 142. Would be a good day out with a few drink stops on the way.

Maybe then the ride quality can be upgraded somewhat to merely "awful".

You should try one of the old Diesel Rail buses now that is shocking, even at only 25mph plus they are the worst seats i have ever sat on in a train.

I would love to get a pacer on the marston vale if only to show the bloody nimbys that they are very lucky to have a 150/153 combo!

Well, you've got a proto-Pacer , haven't you, in the Railbus. That looks a fun beast.

The daily York-Heaton Ecs or one of the moves from Exeter to Newton Heath/Heaton!

Far North would be excellent for the jointed track! WHL anybody?

For the ones you can do in real life favourites have got to be the Little North Western (Skipton-Lancaster) or Barnstaple branch. I still miss the Oldham Loop on a pacer, not even the best videos do it justice!

About 9 years ago there used to be a 16?? York-Newcastle ECML throughout. Booked a 156 but was frequently a 142. Not sure how much longer the pacers have darn sarth but there were 2 ex FGW units (029/064) stabled at Darlington last Friday night.

Let Top Gear have a dozen of them, customise them and use them for drag races somewhere in the UK which has steep gradients and jointed track.
