Hi All,

Have just finished a long planning session that involved far too many tabs being open in my browser and the incredibly long printouts of times for the York diagrams. I have a free Friday coming up (25th) and have concocted a plan, se below, to get in some shots of the 20s. Would like to hear what people have to say about the locations if that's OK as they're almost all new to me!

3S13 Wrenthorpe - Grimsby, Hatfield & Stainforth road bridge (0930ish)
3S14 Grimsby - Malton, Wombwell Station (1400ish)
3S14 Grimsby - Matlon, Castleford Station (1515ish)
3S21 York - Gilberdyke, Leeds Station (1604-1620)

Comments welcome and any other decent locations on the routes of the above that are accessible by rail and walking would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks in advance,
Jonathon

You should be OK at Wombwell and Castleford stations during the day but I wouldn't advise going with a camera after dark.

At Castleford there are a few level crossings near to the station where you might just get a better shot, although there is a footbridge at the station which is probably better.

Has the footbridge at Castleford station reopened? It was shut when I was there 2 or 3 years ago.

Replies much appreciated! Castlford footbridge was on my mind but if not the platforms may have to do as I get in without much time to spare :(

Confirmation on Wombwell as very useful as it looks good on Google Maps but can't find any shots! Plan to be 'safely' in Leeds by dark :)

I was there a few months back and sure I saw some people using it.

Only thing I can imagine going wrong at Wombwell is that it is roughly on a N-S axis so depending on what time you are there and the angle and level of the sun could be a problem for pictures.

Well, 3S14 heads Barnsley - Sheffield (South?) when I intend to get my shot from the end of the platforms so hopefully the sun will be more or less over the shoulder :)

Useful advice though!

Make sure you're on the far side of the line, I'm told those RHHTs kick up a fair bit of muck!

That's something I hadn't thought about....3S77, my local, is one I have never seen spraying!

WOM will be a shot from the opposite platform and HFS from the road bridge. I've just found a spot at Chapeltown, on the road-bridge near ASDA. Any idea if it's half decent?!

S Yorks, usually
Not sure about Chapeltown itself, but there's a track (bumpy lane), footbridge and field just over a mile to the south near Ecclesfield. Plenty of options there.

Very interesting *goes to Google Maps* might be worth a try if this road bridge doesn't work out. I've found a shot on Flickr but there is also a bush on street view that might cuase a problem...

I normally find Chapeltown to be full of young kids getting on to go to Meadowhall - so might put you off from photing at the station. IIRC it is right next to an Asda so you are bound to get attention from someone.

Always adds a bit of excitement :D
The bridge I intend to try is reached from a direct footpath from the station. As its term time fingers crossed it will be OK!

Neat shots. Where do you find the diagrams for these services?
