I will be catching the 0730 to Glasgow in First Class with my friend,
Is this service normally busy or quiet? and what will the chances of us getting a table with 4 seats to ourselfs?
Also, what can we expect as far as food, drinks etc go? :)

If you're travelling first class then you will be able to get a full complementary breakfast service including the option of a full English, a veggie full English and a few others (scrambled eggs a salmon I believe is on offer as well). You can find out more about first class here.

I hardly travel the route so I can't advise on loadings.

You don't say when you're going, but looking at available tickets for next Monday, the 07:30 is much cheaper than later trains, suggesting that it is less than full.

However, the first class section has 2 + 1 seating, so hopefully you will choose a pair of seats on the "1" side rather than attempt to occupy 4 seats for two people.

You've got a very good chance of getting a table of four to yourselves. Particularly as there are two of you.

Regarding Breakfast, you can have a full English breakfast, a vegetarian breakfast, or smoked salmon & scrambled eggs. This will then be followed by toast/croissant. You will also have an unlimited supply of water / tea / coffee / orange juice / etc...

There is also a good chance of you being served "Light Bites" after Preston, which consists of sandwiches, crisps, etc...

Sorry to be a pedant, but it isn't a ''full English,'' the Virgin website describing it as ''The Great British.'' Presumably because it doesn't include beans. God knows why, you wouldn't have a full breakfast in a cafe that didn't provide beans.

For some reason the only beans I can find on an intercity service are on FGW's Travelling Chef. No idea why...

I would, they're hateful things...

It requires another person to serve them. Simples.

How does that work? Used to be on EC (before May) that the chief or a CSA brought breakfast to your seat with everything already plated up (and they still do just minus the beans). They didn't bring all the breakfast then come round afterwards dolloping out beans. Or do you mean it would need an extra person in the kitchen (which seems equally ridiculous)?

I'm shocked the Virgin Guru (All Line Rover) was not more specific. On the second leg of your journey after Preston, you will be offered the Breakfast Light Bites, which consists of a bacon/sausage/veggie sausage bap. Make sure you sit near coach K though, as by the time this reaches G it will be cold (as I experienced on Friday). This being a London-based crew, the service should be attentive and efficient based on my experience. You can also use the First Lounge at Euston, which opens at 0700.

Breakfast Light Bites? That's a new one to me! According to Virgin's "First Class Food Service" leaflet - http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/assets/pdf/global/first-class-food-service.pdf - "Light Bites [Cold]" are served after Preston. I suppose "Breakfast Light Bites" makes sense since the train departs before 11am at all stations before Glasgow, but the "guide" is a bit deceptive! ;)

I was under the impression that any Pendoino service departing before 11am offered the Light breakfast? As the 0730 departs Preston at 0941 and Carlisle at 1047, surely this should be offered as opposed to the sandwiches (which this week are thankfully appealing - the Winter Cheeseboard is bland but tasty as is the Salmon and Cream Cheese).

Unfortunately Light Bites are not offered on any train departing its origin station before 11am (expect Glasgow to London trains - and vice versa - which have to depart Preston before 11am, rather than London or Glasgow). :(
