Guys, you can't say it hasn't been coming. If you want to make an anti-Pokémon thread, knock yourselves out - just don't litter this thread with hateful remarks.

Like it or not, Pokémon is massive, and as of approximately 21 hours ago (see here) has a perma-presence on here! In previous threads about video games and the like, it has been mentioned, but I felt that it was time to give the franchise its own thread.

This goes without saying, but my favourite has been #121, Starmie, since the games' early days. Misty (both in the games and in the series, but especially so in the latter) could never use it effectively, never mind giving it any of the many elemental techniques it could learn (*cough* Thunderbolt *cough*), but so what? well, actually, among people I knew, it kind of got belittled because she was so useless :( Sill, have to love Misty as well, and see the link above for proof of why she is such a brilliant part of the series :D

OK, enough of me. Go on, be honest; who else here plays/watches/loves/whatever Pokémon? I know of at least one other current regular! :p

I still play (I have FireRed in front of me) although it wasn't the same once they brought in event only pokemon (I need a young child to go to an event with so I don't look lame )

Thunderbolt on Starmie would be interesting but I prefer moves with STAB and at a push those which cover weaknesses so I'd not give Starmie thunderbolt (although Thunderdancing ftw).
My favourite pokemon at the moment is Skarmory (227) although I'm not entirely sure why  yet I also like Charmander and Charizard, Squirtle and Puplip XD

I've been known to watch the first series (defined as up until the Elite Four) but it went downhill after that IMO and Ash is an idiot for releasing good, strong pokemon like Squirtle

Finally...

I must confess to watching the programme quite some time ago as my youngest son was using the storybook of the programme in one of his submissions towards his Masters qualification in Animation.

I understand that Misty left the series in 2003 from information just imparted to me and I believe that she was the youngest of a group of sisters. I noticed that some of the Pokemon changed their image on reaching maturity.

Team Rocket were always thwarted in their plans to capture the Pokemon belonging to Ash, Brock and Misty and were the most inept of villans. Jessie was the real power there, whilst James was not a strong enough personality, but I always liked Meowth.

I believe that the series hit its peak at the end of Season 5 (the end of the Johto saga; officially it's the start of Season 6 but we all know it as part of the Master Quest arc), which concluded with the Silver Conference. Watching for the first time (over eight years ago ) was very tense! If only Sky One hadn't timed it to coincide with David Blaine being a dimwit :| But since then? We've had an idiot in May, a girl who likes penguins (hmm... P.S.: What is a Puplip?), and now no Brock either :|; since about half-way through Sinnoh they've just been reusing old storylines (like Dawn's Piloswine not obeying her)... and worse of all, Team Rocket aren't useless any more! They haplessness was half of the show

Away from the show, I have a very firm favourite few, which runs Starmie-Pichu-Gardevoir-Gengar, with a new addition in 5th in Chandelure. Discounting Pichu, they are all at least partly one of my three favourite Types, which are Water, Psychic and Ghost - the types of mystery. Bit like Starmie really

By me I take it? Misty is indeed the youngest of four sisters, Daisy, Lily, Violet and herself - the "Waterflowers" of Cerulean City [also known as the title for Episode 7... gosh, that's going back a bit ]. Unfortunately for our favourite redhead however, Lily was quick to put her down in the older sisters' introduction: "There are only three Sensational Sisters, and one runt."

To Protect the world from devastation
To unite all peoples within our nation
To Denounce the evils of truth and love
To Extend our reach to the stars above
Jessie
James
Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light
Surrender now or prepare to Fight
Me-owth, that's right

Yes I did get that off the top of my head

Pikachu RULES.

End of.

I've got the latest one (Black) but haven't played it much. Should really start taking it on long train journeys, but I have a iPhone and (Angry Birds).

Anyhoo ... My first game was Yellow. I still play it to this day. It's still awesome.

I've just looked on the official site, and - my God - one of my all-time favourite episodes outside of the Silver Conference arc is available at this very moment! I am so watching it :D Also, I've never seen any Episode from Season 12 (or 13), so here is my chance...!

I rang my youngest son to tell him about this thread and how he used Pokemon in his Masters. He wishes you all well and confirms that he still has three A2 sized framed watercolour paintings of Pokemon that he used as part of his submissions. They are:-

Psyduck

Snorlax

Charizard

I havent watched it for a good few years although I did play some of the games I also have some of the trading cards in the attic somewhere.

I have to admit even though I am 24 I do still watch some anime series particulary the Gundam franchise which I am a big fan of, currently waiting for Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn episode 4 to be released

I'm not watching season 1 right now, honest

I have two Internet windows open right now, one of which has a still of Lily and Violet looking fearful at the sight of a painfully-feminine looking James [even by his standards]...!

Although, at the end of this episode, bye bye Starmie  even if Misty's is pretty much useless

I decided to get out my DS for the first time in quite a while as a result of this thread. Good times :)

But my Sapphire's battery has died! Fortunately however, unlike the GBC games, this only affects some of the in-game events, as opposed to wiping the data. Might be worth giving a final run though to clear everything i need off of it...

I've still got Misty's Song playing :|

Ouch, I haven't played my Red/Blue/Yellow in nearly 9 years, I've completed all three (including Mew), hope they're ok :(

EDIT: They're fine, can't find Silver though.

I wanna be the very best,
Like no-one ever was,
To catch them is my real test,
To train them is my cause...

I will travel across the land,
Searching far and wide,
These Pokémon to understand
The power that's inside...

Pokémon!
Gotta catch 'em all...

It's you and me -
I know it's my destiny!

Pokémon!

Oh, you're my best friend,
In a world we must defend...

Pokémon!
Gotta catch 'em all...

A heart so true -
Our courage will pull us through!
You teach me and I'll teach you

Pokémon!
Gotta catch 'em all!

Gotta catch 'em all...
Pokémon!

From memory  - the video was added to the post after I submitted it! Sad... :p

----------------------

Also, take a look at this (from the Random Thoughts thread)

I stopped watching right after they found the G.S ball (just kept missing the slot and eventually forgot about it). Ashamed to say I have 2000 pokemon cards and the films on video though. God I wanna watch that series again, do they still put out the DVDs?

Dont know about the DVDs, but there's always eBay.

However, the official site puts up a few episodes every week! I've spent probably half of the last 14 nights flitting between this forum and it, watching an episode and then updating myself on here!

Watch Pokémon TV here!

Correct. The voices are supplied by 4Kids Entertainment, a much-maligned and struggling NYC-based television company that specialises in anime, with the first eight Seasons of Pokemon having been their first foray into dubbing (converting the material into a language other than its original) anime.

After a Law suit courtesy of 4Kids' other major success, Yu-Gi-Oh! (they have had others but Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! are its "Big Two"), 4Kids filed for bankruptcy protection in April of this year. They lost the rights to Pokémon a few years ago, when Pokémon USA decided to assume control for a things Pokémon outside of Asia, and have now also lost the rights to Yu-Gi-Oh!. Further, many of their voice actors are freelance, meaning they are free to work with whomever they please.

Not a clue with the hairdressing! It is suggested in EP056 that she is 17. Otherwise, it is nto known how old she was when she first joined Team Rocket.

The following is a list of prominent voice actors for Seasons 1 and 2 (a full list is available here):

Veronica Taylor: Ash, Delia [Ash's mother]
Rachael Lillis: Misty, Jessie, Jigglypuff
Eric Stuart: Brock, James
Jimmy Zoppi: Gary
Stan Hart: Professor Oak
Ted Lewis: Tracey, Giovanni, Stadium Announcer
Lee Quick: Officer Jenny
Megan Hollingshead: Nurse Joy
Ken Gates: Narrator
Ikue Ohtani: Pikachu (lifted from Japanese version)
Satomi Morogi: Togepi (lifted from Japanese version)
Maddie Blaustein: Meowth (formerly Adam Blaustein; died December 2008)

Without money how will 4Kids screw the rules? yay for slight YGOTAS references

Nice link in your previous post, been watching them all day

Has there ever been a list produced showing pictures of all the Pokemon, which also show the evolutionary stages of those who do evolve from one being into another ?

If so, it available to download or is it in a published book ?

What type of creatures did the Pokemon evolve from originally ?

Am I taking this research too deeply for my own good?

There certainly have been examples of this in published books etc (thinking of official guides and PokéDexes here), but I'm not sure if such a thing exists on the Internet. I could make one, but it would take ages! It would take less time to train a Lv100 Magikarp...

Hmm, I've a look and there are such things, but they aren't very clear. This doesn't look too bad, but (a) it only covers the first generation, (b) isn't that easy to follow if you can't tell what all the various colours mean, and (c) it isn't in perfect numerical order for clarity.

But given I'm sad, I could list them all in order and provide links so you can see them one-by-one. It's not as though I don't know said order (I knew it by heart aged 10)! Only, it too would take ages...

---------------------

What did the evolve from originally? The answer, surprisingly, is believed to be Mew! See here for an explanation.

Are you taking this research too seriously? If you are now, I did all too long ago...
