Grand Central are currently recruiting for CSA to work there Sunderland- Kings Cross Services. I am based in sunderland within ten minutes of the station. Can anyone give advice on there recruitment process and tests they hold. I have loads of customer service expereince and retail experience but no experience on the railways can anyone give any advice weather it would be worth applying for this posistion or will it be a waste of time and probably get rejected at screening

just to add i applied for them when the company was first setup and was rejected at the screening stage so not sure if it would be worth a second go.

There is quite a bit of info in the Jobs and Careers section above which might help. Application forms and interviews tend to take the same format these days so they'll be asking of examples of when you have done this and that, so that is a good starting point.

Go for it and good luck to you all! I work in HR at the moment. Try to answer using the STAR approach. Tell them about the Situation, the Task, the Approach used and the Result. May sound obvious but easy to miss...

Do bare in mind that this is NOT working for Grand Central per se, its working for TrainPeople, a recruitment agency. You will be an agency worker required as and when.

hi all, i used to work as a csa for grand central and now a trainee driver so for all those sceptical about getting a trainee role, dont be. i worked for gc for 9 months, had alot of customer service experience previously and london overground were kind enough to give me a trainee role. surprising as im 23, had to relocate, never had a previous safety critical role sontheres hope for you all if you just keep trying.

when i was there every shift started at sunderland but now you pass down to kgx and work back. quality people there and with them just being taken over things can only get better in my humble opinion. good luck!

When you were working for them where did you have to go for interview training. What sort of tests did you have to go through.

There was a CSA working for GC at York and now it looks as if she is East Coast platform staff.

had an interview in there office in sunderland, had a face to face interview then a few tests, pretty much basic maths and a little on customer service. nothing to stress over

Looks to me like they work as "agency" crew for six months then EC decide whether to keep them and give them a contract on the proper wages/pay scales or not.
