I've sure we've had a thread like this before, but not for ages. Quite simply, list some of the famous people you've met!

The reason I'm making this thread is that today the Christmas lights here were switched on, as undertaken by one Mr John Cleese. Quite possibly Britain's most famous sitcom genius, he joins my not-so-long list of Dave Webb (football manager), Wolf (from Gladiators), and Sylvia Anderson (voice of Lady Penelope), and a couple of lesser people. My sister and mother have met the Chuckle Brothers :|

I'm sure half of you can beat this

There was one about famous people you've met on a train, i seem to recall.
Anyway, since I don't think I've met anyone famous on a train, well... oh dear, I'm rather short of famous people I've seen at all, really. Does the Queen count?

Does she ever! I almost managed it myself six months ago, because she and I were in Dublin on the same day - but I didn't know her itinerary :(

I've met Ivo!

Um... I cannot believe I'm going to say this, but I'm almost not surprised to see that someone has put this; what, being a famous writer, psychologist, economist and all...

Oh, and our former MP visited college one time, during his [unsuccessful] re-election campaign. Though I'm not sure why exactly, since not many of us were 18 at that juncture.

It was in Poole one time when she was opening the Lifeboat place. I didn't see her there, in fact I didn't know she was going to be there at all, but I managed to catch her coming out of the Lighthouse place opposite the bus station. That Rolls of hers is a right ugly thing.

I've met the Queen, I even shook her hand. This doesn't count as I've never met him but Bill Clinton is my cousin ( You'll have to believe me, I can't believe it myself!)

I don't think we have anyone turning on the lights at all. In fact, i'm not sure we've even got lights. :-/
Even when they opened the new bypass back in the Spring, the best they could do was the Mayor standing in front of a row of Cones holding his thumbs up like him used to off the telly, and then got in a taxi and went off somewhere else.

Roy Jenkins was one of my relatives. Met him a couple of times - though sadly I was too young to have any kind of meaningful conversation!

I've also sat opposite two ex-prime ministers and an ex-chancellor.

I've seen John Cleese too, while going round an exhibition at the Heywood Gallery many years ago. Was slightly surprised at how VERY tall he was. I once got to spend a couple of hours with Joan Armatrading, who was really nice. And I had a brief chat with Shaw Taylor once, as a recreation of an armed robbery on the post office next to West Ham station was being filmed for 'Police 5'! Best of all, as a teenager I won a writing competition and as a prize got to have lunch with Andy Kershaw. Plus Princess Anne visited my school, and I once went to a party with the most entertaining Gerry Hayes. I've met Donald Findlay too, he was most odd and rather cold. plus loads of people at book launches, talks, etc

That is possibly the most surreal post I have ever since in all my years on here.

Tom Owen, The Queen, Prince Charles, Jeremy Clarkson, Barbra Windsor, Sue Pollard, Billy Connolly, Roy 'Chubby' Brown, and the late great Sir Jimmy Saville. Ive been really lucky in my life most of these were at organised events but Clarkson was in a pub in Chipping Norton, Tom Owen by Bill Owens grave in Holmefirth and Sir Jimmy was in skeg just by chance.

And possibly one of the most unbelievable given that Clinton's family line comes from Texas - a long way from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne!

True, but think of it this way: Bush and Kelly (the "protagonists" of the '04 election) were ninth cousins whose family originated from Wickford

It could be possible, yes. Either way I doubt it's going to be first or second cousins!

Met Man Utd Chelsea Crystal Palace Sheffield wednesday/united Liverpool Bolton Everton West Ham Blackpool and various other teams at the hotel i used to work at. Most polite team out of them guess anyone? Even better if you can guess the most polite player (wasnt part of the team that was most polite generally)

Apart from footballers there isnt really anyone unfortunately. Met russel howard briefly too.

I want to say Everton, so I will. As for player? Scott Parker (assuming he was at West Sham at the time).

Thinking back he's not directly related to me but let me go into more detail, his mum is related to my mums, mum. Who are from Ireland. Which explains a bit. And all this information is from my mum. But this doesn't make him my cousin... I think, my mum said he was my cousin. I'm confused! But he is related to me... Distantly.

Not hard to be honest - you'll find one of my cousins in Boston, Mass and the other one in Port Elizabeth, SA ;)

I did look into it before posting - his family have been in Texas for a very long time. I know what you mean though - I have distant family in Aus.

A few years ago, saw Ian Hislop filming a TV show on Whitehall - can't remember the show, I think it was something about poetry.

Manchester UTD gergie keeps his players in very good shape, please and thank you for everything. very polite happy to take pictures.

most polite player was julian speroni (of crystal palace) although crystal palace were the msot ignorant team of lot. There young players had no respect for anyone. Served them night before final day relegation clash with sheffield wednesday (who i support), they picked up on that and constantly mocked me the whole evening....

When I was working in Reading, I sold tickets to Lenny Henry, Pete Postelthwaite, Kate Winslet's sister Beth, Lwrie Sanchez and an actor who was Liz Hurley's husband in Sharpe, but who's name escapes me for the moment!

Away from the railway I've met Martyn Ellis, who was in Rockliffe's Babies and Eastenders years ago, half of the Swansea City 1981-1982 team, some local comedians who would probably not be well known today, as they were on TV in the 1970's, Colin Jones, former boxer, and my favourite Dr Who, Jon Pertwee, who was a lovely man.

I have been a foot away from Keith Lemon, seen Holly Willoghby, Fearne Cotton, Rufus Hound, Nasty nick, some other soap stars (It was a filming of Celebrity Juice, I was on TV!)

Served Pixie Lott (and her model boyfriend) on the bar on the Red Funnel Ferry. (She had been at the IOW Festival)

Met Michael Portillo as he was filming on the boat (I may be in the background of some shots).

Been on the same boat as Kate Moss and Alexandra Burke, although never actually recognized them.

Shook Richard and Judy's hands at a book singing years ago.

Had Scooch perform in my school hall and met them afterwards, before they went "big".

Seen ex-Saints footballer Matt LeTisser in Asda when I was a kid apparently, but don't remember it.

I'm sure there's more but can't think...

EDIT: Sally Taylor (BBC South) has also put her arm around me at a Duke of Edinburgh's award evening.
