Morning,

I am off to Ebbsfleet to see the remains of Darlington Football Club take on Ebbsfleet in the BSP.

I wonder if anyone can advise me the best way to get there. I have a Network Card but I cant figure out if HS or LS service would be the best. The fares seem a bit strange! Any help greatly appreciated

I have been let down by my lift AGAIN so I am on the train!

--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Looking at Milton Keynes - Ebbsfleet Intl / Northfleet its both the same price.

Milton Keynes - Ebbsfleet
via London Euston, HS1
£20.05 Off Peak Day Return
Any Permitted +

Milton Keynes - Northfleet
via London Bridge (lowspeed service)
£20.05 Off Peak Day Return
Any Permitted +

The football ground being closer to Northfleet.

You can save £1.50 by splitting in London, walking to St Pancras from Euston and traveling to Ebbsfleet International :

Milton Keynes - London Euston
£9.25 off peak day return Virgin Trains Only
Same Price for London Midland Only

London St Pancras - Ebbsfleet Intl
£9.50 Off Peak Day Return via HS1

All prices quoted are with Network Railcard Discount.

Ebbsfleet station is practically next door to Northfleet...well not quite, but it's very close. If it were me I'd get the HS train.

Now, just to add to the confusion i have just rememebered i have a valid return from MKC to Watford Junction.

Could i use that, change at Watford, use my oyster and get to Kings Cross/St Pancras to meet my mates in a faster/cheaper way.

Problem 2 - i have to meet them at Kings Cross at 0930!

As you mean valid return do you mean return Portion of a WFJ to MKC ticket ? Or a return to WFJ and back to MKC from WFJ

WFJ - Watford Junction
MKC - Milton Keynes Central

Also im guessing you have your railcard on Oyster?

A Watford - Euston Single will cost
£2.70 e/w with your oyster
(providing you have your network card on it)

otherwise it will set you back £4.10 e/w.

Certainly cheaper but not faster as you will have to get a London Midland to Watford. Get Off, exit through barriers, then tap in again on your oyster card for the journey to London with either London Overground (slow) or London Midland (fast)

No i have a vaild return ticket MKC-WFJ. I bought it earlier this week when i was called to a site visit at very short notice ( which was then promptly cancelled!)

I DONT have my Network Card on my Oyster. (I dont think, how do I check or sort that out - apologies i am still getting used to all this!)

Having such a blonde day : you can't get network railcard discount on PAYG oyster. My mistake i do apologize.

so if you have a valid return MKC - WFJ, it would be better for you to purchase :

Watford Junction - Ebbsfleet Intl
Off Peak Day Return £13.00 + any permitted with railcard.

Bear in mind you will have to get a train that stops at Watford from Milton Keynes Central on its way to London for the combination to be valid.

Oyster PAYG will work out more expensive and a lot more time consuming, with having to get off as i explained earlier :)

Yes, but as I mentioned in a topic a few days ago you will have to be quick at Watford to get to the readers (in the subway) and back on the same train so you may end up on a later train. An O/D (over-distance) excess on the original ticket may be better!

As for meeting at King's Cross, I'd suggest you meet them at the HS1 platforms at St Pancras instead, as you will be approaching from the other direction. I've posted the easiest directions (9 minute walk vs 14 minute walk on Google Maps depending on your walking speed) in recent threads, but basically it is easiest to use the east side entrance at Euston, and the west side entrance at St Pancras and avoid Euston Road.

Another person who uses Phoenix Road? Great stuff. Via what must be the best-located council estate in the world!

Re the guy having an MKC-WFJ both portions, what date is printed on this though?

You cannot load a Network Railcard onto an Oyster card.
