There's only a ten minute or so interchange at Ashford for the Ramsgate via Canterbury/Dover splitter Mainline service anyway, I'm not losing sleep over it.

I was wondering when this announcements was going to reach the press.

What will be the Javelin shuttle frequency between St Pancras and Stratford International ? And what will be the service frequency between Faversham / Ashford to St Pancras ?

Will St Pancras' three HS1 domestic platforms cope ?

Actually, having said I won't be affected, I've just looked at the actual timetable and I've found that they've reduced our trains to 1 per hour...

Luckily the ones I use (from Faversham) are unaffected, but I can see a lot of people are going to be unhappy about this.

This is news?

How the heck did the BBC think an Olympic Javelin shuttle service could be run? This has been known about for about 4 or 5 years, possibly longer.

The media took exactly the same tack with the recent 'news' about Straftford International's platforms being altered for the games. I reckon that was about 4 years old news as well...

Should do, they did a load of live testing a while back didn't they? Presumably the BBC completley missed that...

As for the platforms, surely if they run as single units, they could double up in platforms anyway?

The problem was that the platforms were too low.

They spent a million pounds installing wooden platforms to raise the level. Why a few bits of wood cost so much I have no idea.

I thought the above meant by number of trains per hour, not design...

I thought you meant the platforms at Stratford International, mentioned in this post.

Agreed.

I'm sure we've known about this for years - plenty of things around the country are being cut back to provide (additional) resources for the Olympics (not just railway things either).

I'm not sure what that's got to do with anything.

Details are on the SouthEastern website - every half hour during the night between St Pancras and Stratford - around every 7mins during the day

It's one train an hour to Faversham, down from two.

I don't get the big deal personally

Train services in the busiest commuter area in the country dramatically cut back; no, no big deal at all.

I hope they bring back the fasts from Ashford to London via Tonbridge for a bit then :D

No, I mean talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. This was always planned. What did you think Hitachi were going to magic some 395/1s which would be used for a few months on additional Olympic shuttles before being sent back?! Please.

They wouldn't, that would give the public a chance to see just how much the old routes were anihalated to make HS1 look good!

Completely agree

it's got a lot. It was announced prior to the High Speed services starting that this was going to happen. If you have proper long term notice something's going to taken then I can't see why you'd have issue with it. Hell the station I used to live at got its service cut in half because of the high speed services.

Odd isn't it, that two years ago it was being suggested that HS1 domestics were a white elephant and no-one would ever use them - especially because no-one will ever want to go to St Pancras...

Edited to correct HS1

I think you mean HS1 don't you?

I must admit that before they started I was guitly of thinking the HS trains were a bit of a waste of time...at least on the North Kent Line. But now I use them more than I thought I would. I find it more convenient to go to/from St. Pancras sometimes, plus it tends to be less busy in the rush hour than Victoria. They made my trips to York and Lincoln so much easier, rather than having the negotiate the Underground with a suitcase.

I just wish they'd cut out some of the stations though to make the journey faster.

You only just found that out now? I heard that in spring in Today's Railways UK. TBF to them though there is no other way they could provide for increased demand and maintain services.

Indeed, required reading for every commuter.

I think that this may be part of the problem...

Its only for a couple of weeks anyway (then we can get around to paying for it all)

They should probably have ordered additional units.... Especially once the service appeared to be reasonably succesful, then they could have delayed the introduction of the "Phase 2" service till after the games and avoided this PR trouble.

Plus wed get more destinations in the South East going via HS1, possibly even Hastings.

On another peripherally related point: Do Cl395s run doubled up under normal circumstances? ie. could you double the number of destinations from teh same number of paths by splitting every train at Ashford without reducing seats to each destination.

Delaying the second phase (to avoid a couple of weeks of reduced service during the summer holidays) would have inconvenienced even more people though

Yes. There's a couple of trains to Faversham, at least, that are 12 coach trains instead of the normal 6 in the evening.
