I plan to move to London within 1.5-2 years as an student attending the uni. I also plan to travel around London a lot so I need to live in areas that have a very good transport network.

Any suggestions? Also, I need at least live within 10-20 minutes (By walk or bus) from tube station because of pre 9:30 restrictions on national rail.

Also, I don't care about crime rates because I will be spending most of my time staying in home and staying out of the area to do some work like uni and going to venues.

Question is which universitys are you applying for?

Assuming you wish to be reasonably close and at least the right side if the river.

To be fair that cold be 95% of anywhere in the area bounded by Camden Town, Barking, Brixton and Ealing ;)

The Uni is not confirmed but it will be most likely to be located in central London.

Yeah, and I forgot one thing to add, I'm also limited by rent price in housing. So it limits 95% of areas to 1-5% areas. And one particular area I'm interested into is Whitechapel. It has Overground, two tube lines, excellent bus network at Aldgate and possible crossrail.

Forest Gate, E7
Forest Gate has Wanstead Park on the Overground (no Freedom Pass restriction) and buses to Stratford, Leyton, Upton Park and Canning Town tube stations. It will also have Crossrail.
It's the third-cheapest postcode in London, after Thamesmead (SE28) and Manor Park (E12) but has better transport links than both.

Thanks :) Any more ideas? Also I think I won't be using crossrail because my uni will have finished by time those construction will continue.

So, is it still a viable choice?

Definitely. I've lived here for four years and have always been able to get around, even with all the engineering works. For example, I was at Paddington fifty minutes after leaving home today, even with all the Tube closures.
There are two night buses too, so you are never really stuck getting home.
There is apparently quite a high level of crime, but I walk home from the station after a late shift (about 11pm) with my iPod on, and I have had no problems.

Something to consider is do they take the Freedom Pass as being your home address (outside london I presume) or your term time residence. Reason I say is that passes issued by councils outside London don't get anything more then bus travel.

Yeah I currently have a concessionary pass that only works on the buses after 9:30 in London since it's from outside London. Although during the Uni term, I plan to rent a house for 3/4 years and thus giving me a home residence address. I also plan to get a part time job if necessary.

It even has national rail, and it is just 2 stops away from Forest Gate railway to Stratford which is very good for me when I decide I need to get to home quickly after a long day at uni.

Also, would you estimate how long it does take for me to get to Maria Vale and Earling/Southall from Forest Gate? Also, is it easy to get to Finsbury Park?

Ealing can be done on the Central line LUL direct from Stratford / Leyton, and both Ealing / Southall are available on NR from Paddington (H&C line from West Ham). Finsbury Park is the same, H&C to Kings Cross St Pancras, then either NR from Kings Cross or Piccadilly / Victoria lines on the LUL.

As Matt says.
But for Finsbury Park, I'd take the Overground from Wanstead Park, then change at Blackhorse Road for the Victoria Line. Takes about twenty minutes.
Do you mean Maida Vale? If so, H&C to Baker Street or Central to Oxford Circus, and change for the Bakerloo. About fifty minutes or so, or you could take Overground to Willesden Jct via Gospel oak, and change for the Bakerloo at Willesden. That'd take a bit longer.

Regarding to high level crime @ EM2. Like I said in OP, it doesn't matter and crime ratings for whole of UK/London are always exaggrated and even I currently live in area that has one of highest crime rates outside the London and it is much higher than some of London areas, yet, I haven't seen a person getting beaten up for no reason or stabbed except gang members. In my opinion, crime rate ONLY matters if you're in gang which obviously most of people here aren't, so therefore, are usually subjected to pickpocketing and some other petty crimes, even with that, it's pretty unlikely.

LUL = London Underground Line?

Btw, any more other areas in case if Forest Gate is unavailable?

Sorry, should have said, it means London Underground Limited, but it is generally used to refer to London Underground in general :)

There are no time restrictions on English concessionary bus passes used on buses in London. The time restrictions do not apply on Transport for London bus services, this applies to Freedom Passes and English concessionary (outside london) passes.

London freedom pass holders can only use LUL after 0930.

No, I think you've got it wrong. Freedom pass holders can use LUL, bus and Overground at any time.
