Just me then!... The quality has gone down Hill year on year and this is no exception. You're not missing much!

I was there today, I thought that it was as good, and as relaxing, a day out as ever. Nice variety of layouts there. My only complaint with the Warley show, which applies every year, is the sheer size of it. It's a bit overwhelming!

I went, enjoyed it and happy with my purchases. As usual don't buy from such as the Heljan stand, a little looking around and the same things are cheaper else where.

My only complaint is that they don't use all of the hall yet when it gets busy you can't move for other people. I presume they pay for the hall by the square foot or similar so it's all down to money. A little bit more spaced out would make for a lot more enjoyable a day.

Yes they pay for space used rather than per hall.

I went today. Was a good show as usual with a good range of layouts and traders. I bought a replacement n-gauge 101 dmu plus a couple of mark 1s.

Went yesterday with a couple of workmates armed with advance tickets, got in and headed straight for the Dapol stand to pick my NBL Class 22... a lovely little model, well worth the wait. A good atmosphere this year I thought. If the floor space they used was any bigger, the ticket prices would have to go up so they're damned if they do and damned if they don't I guess.

Also picked up several Diesel Hydraulic books including the three newest ones from Strathwood, Irwell Press and Ian Allan, plus a few of the little things I can't get anywhere else, unless ordering online. Nice to see stuff in the flesh and have a chat with the small traders though. We were ready for a pint and a sit down by midday, then went for a slow wander....very impressed by the pre-production Blue Pullman and Class 85 on the Bachmann stand, I'm going to order a BP on the strength of what I saw in the glass case, they really have captured the look of the prototype, especially the subtle shapes of the cabs.

All in all a positive day for me.

Went today, with my son, and I have to say that since my last visit, about 4 years ago, I think it has gone downhill a bit. I can't put my finger on it but it seemed to be lacking something.

I was at the Scottish equivalent 2 years ago and the difference between the two is getting smaller. Don't get me wrong, the layouts were of the usual high standard and the trade was well represented, though I wasn't impressed with the Hornby stand. As an industry leader I was hoping for more.

Overall, 7 out of 10. Best part of £20 to get in; £15 would have been more realistic.

Where on earth was the Bachmann pre-production Blue Pullman? I browsed round and round the Bachmann stand looking for such a thing, having a hunch that it would be present at the Warley show, but never found it. :|

I was at the Model Railway Show...GOD THE NEC WAS HUGE! and i got lost on route in the NEC! the exbitition was so huge it made the real size N2 a small model, there were some good layouts there, and filmed some

Also my Milton Keynes Model Railway Show in 2012 came early becuase one of their layouts was there as well

Was there anything else going on up there the same day? I went a few years back and there was some kind of fashion show on in another hall, travelling from the south on Virgin Cross Country (220 Voyager) the train was packed with Model rail enthusiasts, youngsters for the fashion show and normals, i was ****ed off before i even got there, the model show was packed out, and then on the way home the trains were so full that i let THREE trains go before i could get on one, then spent most of the trip sat in a gangway on the floor.

Ok so the travel was'nt the shows fault but with people saying its not as good as it used to be could the show be becoming a victim of its own success? Is it TO big for a model show?

By the way, i understand they usually have a full size loco on display, what was there this year?

^ It was a green tank engine, GNR, I can't remember more deets.

I had a great time, as usual. Discovered Locomotives Illustrated magazine and got the 67 one. Also decided to get Train Simulator 2012. As ever waiting until kicking-out time was the best thing to do when getting a pic of the centrepiece. Great stuff.

The unpainted Blue Pullman along with the BR blue 85 and an unpainted twin pan AL5 (85) were in a display case built into the side of the stand.

There was also the LM 350 and Derby lightweight DMU (class 110 ? not sure), they all looked absolute fantastic models such that I will be buying the BP and the twin pan 85 and the lightweight DMU, they all fit in exactly in the 1960s era I'm interested in.

If anyone is interested I emailed Bachmann to ask the total coupled length of the 4mm Blue Pullman. Their reply was approximately 1560mm.

That was N2 1744, a Gresley designed suburban tank loco for the Great Northern Railway, which was being loaned from the Great Central Railway for the event. I was hauled by it a few months ago on the GCR, so it was strange seeing it up on a plinth in the NEC.

Fiddlestix. I have no idea how I managed to completely miss that. One of the main reasons I went to the Warley show was to see if I could get a glimpse of a pre-production Bachmann Midland Pullman. :(

Derby lightweight DMUs are class 108, 110s were the Calder Valley three-car units. The Bachmann 108 is an absolutely wonderful model. I want one of the three carriage units in BR blue/grey.

I've seen the Bachmann 350 in Modelzone recently and that too looks to be an absolute beast of a model in terms of the level of detailing, but it's completely outside of my modelling era and theme.

That would sound to be right as compared to my estimations. Should fit quite snugly in my platform loops then as I would expect, and be about the same length as my longest platform, much like my current loco-hauled Pullman rake.
