Went to Long Eaton and Leicester today and today just really wasn't XC's day

the 10:10 out of Derby for Nottingham delayed due to, according to Derby station, a signaling failure, according to their guard, the other unit broke down and they had to wait for a new one :|

Then, at Long Eaton, all of the Cardiff trains to Nottingham were late speeding through, one train from BHM to Nottingham got cancelled because of a member of staff not turning up, according to the automated voice at the platform

And then, at Leicester, things could only get better(!) All trains coming out of BHM to either terminate at Leicester or heading to Stansted delayed with no reason given but a points problem in or around Water Orton according to one of my new friends at Leicester

When it isn't a TOC's day, it just isn't their day but, it is Cross Country so

1010 was 22L leaving New St awaiting inward stock due to TC problem at Oakham
Cardiff - Nottingham trains Arriving at Nottingham and their delays
1105 11L
1205 6L
1305 RT
1405 1L
1505 RT
1605 RT
Hardly all late
One Birmingham - Nottingham cancelled due to no Senior Conductor
Leicester disruption due to TC problems at Daw Mill

OK the no SC was XCs problem but I fail to see how any of the others were
And exaggerating for effect doesn't really help anyone

Well that clears all that up, I was only at LOng Eaton until half one.

Daw Mill, that is Coleshill isn't it?

And I wasn't exaggerating XCD, just having a laugh at their expense, I'm allowed one a day to keep me fit and healthy and, unfortunately, I had it at XC's expense

Its on the line to Nuneaton. Its in between Whitacre Junc and Nuneaton. Coleshill Parkway is before you get to Whitacre

On the left heading east there is (was?) a massive expanse of sidings there, as well as a goods loop still in situ, so you would feel when you were passing it.

Thing is I know XC get a hard time on here and sometimes with good reason. But one thing that does annoy me is when people blame the TOC for trains running late. I don't know the figures but I would imagine a big majority of XCs delays are outside the control of XC
So Ian. Don't have a laugh a XCs expense as the vast majority of problems they have regarding late running are not really their fault

I'll back that up 100%. Most of the delays these days is down to Railtrack jurisdiction, be it signal failures or cable thefts.

These TOC bashing threads are getting boring now.

I travelled across the midlands on Saturday using Cross Country for the first part of the journey. I had driven to Audley End with the intention of catching the 08:37 (0825 ex Stansted Airport) to Leicester. When I arrived this was showing as cancelled as well as the next Stansted bound XC unit which would of formed the 09:25 to Brum.

Luckily a NXEA service was booked to follow shortly behind so I managed to catch this and board my intended train at Cambridge.

One thing seems to strike me is when things do go wrong XC seem to neglect Audley End & Stansted and just terminate/start services at Cambridge. All well and good providing you can get a connection!

I can comment though the unit was extremely busy by the time we left Melton Mowbray (probably not helped by Peterborough FC being away at Birmingham) but good to see so many people using the train especially to get into Leicester.
