Complimentary First Class Upgrade??

I have a standard class monthly rail season ticket between bromley Cross and Preston valid via Bolton on fTPE.

When I last checked some months ago, TPE offered monthly or longer ST holders a complimentary first class service at weekends between your two stations.

If that remains valid, would I still be entitled to complimentary tea, coffee, water and cake/biscuits as if a "genuine" First Class ticket holder.

The "customer host" aka trolly dolly "was not an expert with tickets" and thought I'd have to upgrade. The conductor had already done his rounds by then and as a relatively short journey didn't appear again.

I rarely travel this section at weekends so it's not something I've come across before but wouldn't mind knowing the answer for the odd future occasion if anyone knows.

So yes your quite ok to travel in First Class at the weekend between Bolton and Preston.
The second one about Complimentary Refreshments is not answered anywhere that I can find reference to however I am sure kvwr45 or somebody with a working knowledge of TransPennine Express will be able to advise you.

Reasons to Buy [a season ticket]: ...They are valid for weekdays and weekends, so can be used for leisure travel at the weekend and are automatically upgraded to First Class at weekends.

TP Express claim that season ticket holders are "upgraded to First Class." Someone who purchases a Weekend "Upgrade" is entitled to the full First Class service, including snacks and refreshments. So season ticket holders who are "upgraded" to First Class are entitled to the same - they should be treated as if they are a First Class ticket holder.

If you have any future problems I suggest you give TPE a call.

I rarely travel the section of line at weekends where my season ticket is valid and if I do it's usually with my gf who will have a standard ticket for the journey.

As the trolley went past she reminded me "do you not get anything free" and it was that point I vaguely remembered about the comp weekend upgrade.

The conductor had already done his rounds an the trolley person couldn't help. But it seems I probably could have had a free coffee and a cake which would have been most welcome on Saturday morning.

Maybe a daft question but would you technically need to be sitting/ standing in first class to receive complimentary refreshments?
