1A40 Night Riviera Sleeper to London (20/11/11)

I can see that the up sleeper at the moment is around 100 late, due to a train fault, does anyone have any idea what has happened / is going on?
As far as i can see, its now currently being held at Plymouth station.

It was about 130 down at Newton Abbot, back up to about 95 down following a reduced layover in Exeter. Seems to have lost most of that time between Penzance (which it apparently departed on time) and St Erth; not sure what's gone on there.

Something to do with a cable between the class 57 and the carriages.

In part, sleepers do have a lot of time built into the timetable to accommodate diversions due to engineering work (hence why when thing are normal they often sit in stations for long periods and arrive at their destination early).

I was supposed to be going via bristol, and then back through westbury, but it just went the fastest route non stop Via Castle Cary, It was also meant to sit at Exeter for around 30 mins and Bristol TM for around another 40Mins

I think they're generally limited to 80mph in a effort to increase the comfort of the would-be sleepers. Arriving in London early is a pain, as there are always people wanting to get off immediately who wake everyone else.

They are, but if there is a delay and the line speed permits it they will run faster. Though in the case of 57s that's only a maximum of 95mph anyway.
