Very restrictive line worked for many years by 03 shunters and then cut down class 08 locomotives - one or so survive with DB-S I think. Built on old canal formation.

A "real" O8 concertined itelf on one occassion when rushing off at 10 mph to the rescue.

At the end of its days , it was worked by Pantyffynon crews taxied from depot to Cwm Mawr disposal point. Traffic for a while was Speedlink coal in HEA , - before that local exports to various South Wales docks.

It's a fascinating old line, a great example of a line that was built to transport coal, and little else.

Incidentally, the area around Llanelli is fascinating for someone like me who is interested in railway history. It's hard to believe now, but 60 years ago there would have been trains running along the next street to ours!

More to the point, why was mentioned in connection with EC HSTs? Has someone thought about trying to take one of those down there at some time? :o
