I can only go on what the guard said and that was that there was emergency engineering works. If that wasn't the case then the guard was guessing and I'd rather they didn't guess but said I don't know what the problem is.
However I'd have thought 2 trains being late and 5 being marked delayed and that was just the first screen, i didn't scroll down, warranted a comment in National Rail Enquiries Web Site as why this was the case.
Perhaps they need an automated comment which flashes up saying we don't know what is causing these issues, after a set number of trains are delayed. I mean how many trains have to be marked delayed before a comment is put up?
I don't object to things going wrong but I do object to a lack of communication or miss information being fed out to passengers. I don't mind hearing I don't know why your train is late. Some guards even do that. I'd rather that than something which isn't true.
A guard once said on a train we are just waiting for a late running train to depart. This was at Portsmiuth and Southsea. So I got off, as did at least one other passenger and rushed up stairs to catch this train, having previously been told I was better off getting the stopper due to train fault issues. I'd previously been at the station for a time, waiting for the fast service to arrive before being told to catch the other service. Once upstairs we were informed that wasn't the case and the stopping service then left without us being able to get on.
Without asking for it the platform staff handed me a compensation form, apologised and said he shouldn't have given out the miss information.
