I've noticed that quite a few on here have "bought" at least one number from the site millionnumbers.com, and having had a look at two numbers I might be interested I have noticed that one of them was available, and thus I can claim to be the "owner" of the former c2c Green Train, 357010.

This is my first foray into this "market". How many others of you have done such a thing? I appreciate that they are listed in some members' signatures, but I thought it might be interesting to get a physical discussion going and to see what prompted people to buy these.

The one in my signature's a joke, of course, but a while back, I took 50043.

(Guess why; hint: it's not to do with the fact that the first train I ever went on was a NSE/SWT 50+Mk2 between Tisbury and London Waterloo.)

I guess I did it just following a few others I had seen and also because of a friend who had units "of theirs"

I got 390054 first, quite a bit before the others and didn't put it on here at the time, just to "own" a Pendolino before someone else got it (it was before 054 was even in the country)

220030 haunted me for quite some time and has a habit of popping up in various places (although less so now I am further from the area served by them, though it still made an appearance in York a few months back.

185111 cropped up by sight and for travel a couple of times within a short space of time but I also like it because it is all the 1's :P

Just bought 5403: My all time favourite bus (Leyland Olympian H263 GEV), as previously registered to the company I do not like.

Just popped onto MillionNumbers now and at the top, the 'recently sold' number was 380106. Gone to some character called CarterUSM, apparently... ;)

I've got 47401, 55008, 56076 and 56134. MillionNumbers was the big craze when I first joined RailUK.

Do you actually 'buy' these numbers, i mean with cash, or do you just claim them?

What it says on "About":

Million Numbers, established in the Spring of 2007, aims to be the premier number supplier to those in need of the freshest, most outstanding numbers in the world. There is a stiff market for numbers in the world today, with some manufacturers selling their products for over $2000, and a resellers' market of as much as $5000!

Well, we at Million Numbers are saying "Enough is enough!" We're entering the market with the lowest prices in town: $0. That's right — absolutely free, zilch, zippo, nada, nothing, zero-money-down and no payments until you feel liking giving us some money. It's taken many seconds of grueling, stressful, highly-complex research and development, but our engineers have successfully developed highly efficient computer algorithms that produced for us the numbers 1 through 1,000,000 — and we're just giving them away!

I did "buy" one, but I forget how you get back to it to link to it.

I just tried to buy the whole 458 fleet, someone else has got 458001. I couldn't just buy the SR designations 8001-8030 either because someone's nabbed 8001 :(

That's right, I remember now, I couldn't get a 322 one, so I just plumped for a 318, not even sure if I have a 156 at all.
