G'day,

Two questions for you all:-

Why was the maintenance facility closed relatively soon after electrification.

And.......

For many years a class 45 was dumped at the London end of the depot yard. Can anyone tell me how it ended up there and how it lasted so long?

Cricklewood TMD maintained the DMU fleet as well as the 45s and 25s based around the London end of the line. Obviously a lot of work went when the DMUs were withdrawn

It did not close relatively soon after electrification as it remained open to undertake light maintenance of the locos until the 45s were withdrawn. Obviously changes to freight traffic patterns and the split of the freight sector also had an impact on the need for locos allocated there.

I think 45149 was dumped there after a seized traction motor. Presumably too expensive to repair and too much of a hassle trying to do anything with it. I spent most of my childhood travelling past it, and I think it was responsible for my appreciation of BR Blue diesels.

Yeah to cope with the extra tracks coming.

They'll need the sidings to park the trains queueing for the core when the GN side gets added.

Thanks for all your replys to my thread, they are much appreciated. However I seem to remember that Cricklewood maintained class 317's until the work was moved to Hornsey and and always thought that this was rather odd which is why I aked the question the first place!

Why does that site show Cricklewood as being upgraded? It's getting replaced whole sale when this is built.
