Caught the... must have been 13:16, Leicester to Birmingham train on Wednesday. While we were leaving the station, we passed a stationary train like none I've ever seen before. Wondering if anybody knows what it was?

The train consisted of:

2 diesel engines
2 tank cars
4 London Underground carriages
2 tank cars
2 diesel engines

In that order...

Perhaps I dreamt it, but I'm sure it was real.

The tube train was the taller kind. Was definately a tube train as it had the red front, the blue doors, and the white finish..

I wish I could describe the diesel engines. They were short, and didn't have a livery.

Any... ideas?

Would have been Class 20s with some more S Stock trains for delivery, although I can't confirm the bit about the 20s :)

No longer here
All S Stock is in 8 car formation, is it not? How can only 4 cars have been moved at a time? The trains have a continuous corridor.

The normal deliveries at the moment are all Metropolitan line 8 car, but the one this week is a 7 car for the other SSR lines; at least according to some reports elsewhere...

It may well have been eight, I was a little tired, hence thinking I dreamt it.

That looks precisely it, thanks! I couldn't work out why there would be tankers, but barrier wagons makes sense. And of course they'd need to be towed by something as the lines aren't electric.

Sounds like a Strategic Reserve movement, probably four of their class 22s and a Mobile Command Centre. Guess they would be en-route to Long Marston. For them to be seen during the day like that would suggest there had been a mechanical problem, as such movements normally only take place in the dead of night. I believe last time one of the 22s was sighted was at Stoke-on-Trent sometime in the 1980s, so you were incredibly lucky.
