Keighley - South Yorks - Keighley/Rochdale

Looks like I'm going to be making an unscheduled journey in about a week so wondering what the best options are.

My wife and I will start at Keighley on Thursday next week. We need to get to Rotherham. I'm happy to go to Doncaster if that's easier/cheaper as there's a good bus link and I'm likely to be getting a day bus ticket anyway. We'll be travelling early afternoon.

We'll be coming back on the Friday. Sometime in the morning, probably early unless it makes a big prive difference. At the moment I don't know if we need to return to Keighley or go to Rochdale. If we do go to Rochdale we will not be return to Keighley by train.

I'd appreciate best prices anyone knows for both routes.

We have and are entitled to no railcards. I have a ticket valid Leeds-Doncaster on East Coast only. My wife does not.

Two options as far as I can see.

2x Keighley - Rotherham Ctl Anytime Return route Not Doncaster = £32

or 1x Keighley - Rotherham Ctl Off Peak Return route Any Permitted (valid via Doncaster)
+ singles Keighley-Leeds and Leeds-Keighley + your ticket to Doncaster = £25.60 (and then decide if you want to continue on the train or the bus)

Getting there

1 WY Family day rover £9-50
2 singles Moorthorpe - Rotherham Central £3-70 each
which is £8-45 each. Same for return to Keighley.
If going to Rochdale as above plus a Walsden - Rochdale single (£3-30)

The train would have to call at Moorthorpe in the above example though because the DayRover is a PTE product.

Normally a Rover is the name given to a ticket valid for 3 or more days and is a "Leisure Pass/Season" for the purposes of Condition 19.

Normally Day products are known as Day Rangers. However Metro has gone against the normal conventions and calls their Day products DayRovers. It's not just because they're PTE products but because they are not a leisure pass valid for 3 days or more, that the train needs to call at Moorthorpe.

Moorthorpe is in both the West & South Yorkshire PTE zonal areas for ticketing purposes, which is most helpful (unlike the situation with GMPTE or whatever they call themselves now).

If price is an issue (and depending what kind of TSY/FSY bus ticket you'd buy) could always take the Stagecoach bus from South Elmsall to Barnsley and thence to Rotherham?

I can't envisage any point to point return that would cover the triangular journey and not be ridiculously expensive - maybe something like Blackburn-Rotherham could be valid via both Skipton and Manchester (not checked routeing nor price).

I've not flicked through the current timetable, but the 23:15 shf-lds used to do some strange things - some nights it is/was booked to turn off at hare park, and one day it was booked centre road at wakefield westgate - perhaps others can advise whether this or any other oddities remain on the Three Rivers Line.

Tomorrow night the 2315 is booked Hare Park Junction - Crofton West Junction - Calder Bridge Junction - Wakefield Kirkgate - Wakefield Westgate (calling 0010) - Holbeck Junction - Whitehall Junction.

Friday night would seem to be when it takes the centre track as it does not appear to call there, although I cannot check for detailed routing at the moment.
