1005 Stratford - Clapham has had an ADD activation in the Mitre Bridge area
As a result 1007 S.Croydon - M.Keynes requested to set back from North Pole to Shepherds Bush, however the pantograph was not lowered and has come into contact with the A40 overbridge.

I'd stay clear...!

Automatic dropping device. It is meant to lower the pantograph if there is a defect with either it or contact wire of the overhead catenary.

So hang on a second... one pantograph lowered when it shouldn't and one remained up when it should've dropped?

No wonder London Overground was part-suspended. That's all fine now but Southern is only just getting back to normal on the affected stretch (this is what I gather from their website, at least). :|

No it was two seaparate services, the pantagraph on the first train lowered, so the second train got told to go back but forgot to lower the pan and it whacked a bridge if i read that right

The 377 are designed with a safety feature (well the 377/5's are) that won't drop the shoes until the pan is down or the other way.

But it's happened a few times before where a unit has gone on DC power only to find the pan is still up and it's got ripped off at the first low bit (I remember an hour of delays while a 377/5 sat in Snow Hill).

Sorry, I meant to imply that I understood it to be two different trains' pantos. Oops. I stand clarified. ;)

I thought ADDs worked if the pan went over height, e.g lost the contact wire, too to prevent that sort of thing.

Depends where the wire termination is I suppose, how close is the end of the line to the bridge? It coud even be anchored directly to the bridge.

It's a few metres in front of the bridge. Could have been a case of ADD not working properly on the 377.
