Beginning to see a lot of 442 units with SL depot stickers, small sticky versions of the old freight plaques with the stylised Battersea Power Station image.

I was wondering how many units are being transferred from Brighton?

Still seeing the odd 460 about, 001 + 002 in the last couple of weeks.

Those two are available on spot-hire, the rest of them are officially stored. They are available for use until 1st February next year. Southern may extend that contract further.

Wasn't the stock for the 10 car project due to be decided in december? All the platforms are due to be done by the end of this month and the stock just after that.

The recent refurbishment of the 442 trains has included new Express Class seating, additional seats, new large luggage racks, new First Class areas and improved accessibility area for disabled travel. The 442 trains are known for their great ride, meaning you will have a very smooth ride to and from Gatwick Airport when travelling with Gatwick Express

Great ride indeed! Seating not as special as it sounds

Was a bulletin up at work earlier this year they was going to announce in november so who knows. Regarding luggage vans according to Rail earlier this year they will be converted into normal coaches or spares. The platforms are behind of schedule ive heard anyway only Windsor Ashford and Mortlake have been completed.

There's certainly a lot of them still going on, Barnes, Queenstown Road, Putney and Twickenham to name a few.

Hi,
Because I commute on them at the moment, i've noticed some being reallocated to SL, I assume to replace the 460s as they go off lease? How many units are moving from BI to SL?

The stock would have to have been sorted out a year ago to have 10 cars ready for this December, so I predict that although NR did publish a Dec 2011 deadline for some of the platform extensions, they won't actually be worried about finishing the work now.

In any case, Dec 2011 only applies to certain routes, there are 3 or 4 different phases of the project altogether.

The work should still be finished at the agreed time as the weekend possessions have to be booked many months in advance.

I take it we're talking about extending the 458s to 10 cars?

In which case surely lengthening any platforms between Waterloo and Richmond (except Clapham Junc) is a bit of a waste of time!

Are you suggesting that platform extensions aren't needed along there because 458s don't stop at those stations? That's right for today, but the 458s will no longer be used on the Reading services once extended, they'll be going on the routes currently operated by 450/5s.

All of the 442's are now looked after by SL, Brighton and Selhurst have the 377's which i belive are going to be combined into one depot allox (on paper) and Brighton (BI) retain the ever so classy 313's.

The only platforms being extended in this phase of the upgrade are on the Windsor to Waterloo lines, the Reading and Weybridge lines are part of a different phase.
