Super 60s

Does anyone have technical data for the overhauled Class 60s? I'm intrigued to know whether the "super" tag is justified.

I'm wondering as well. I just saw on Youtube that 60007 had failed in darkest West Wales and was brought back to margam by a Shed. Whatever they've done to them, it doesn't seem to have conspicuously improved reliability much.

Wow Second time failing in a couple of weeks and hasn't 054 Failed as well

60054 was well hidden in Tyne yard the other day after failing then worked to Toton l/e presumably after attention

60019 in trouble today on 6M82 1245 Walsall to Tunstead.Failed near Tamworth and rescued by 66200 from Nottingham.

60019 is not a super 60.

The others have had no significant mods as yet, but are fully overhauled machines, but we must expect a few teething troubles.

It is notable that nowadays when a loco receives an overhaul, it is so unusual that it is regarded as being 'super'. 25 years ago, all locos received one every few years!

In my time on the freight side of things I NEVER failed with a class 60. Failed a few times with 66's though. Ratio I spent on 60's to 66's 1/3 to 2/3.

I did rescue a failed 60 in Birkett tunnel once, it had run out of fuel. The train was 6E13 from Kirkby Thore. Therefore not a mechanical failure but driver brain cell failure.

Of course we should remember that "super" simply means "over", so a "Super-60" could simply be a 60 with extra twiddly bits, with no implication with regards to power or reliability. (Though why add those twiddly bits if they don't improve either is another question. I suppose it could be to incorporate mechanisms for which spare parts are currently available)

Have heard that 60074 is next for the super overhaul once the current machine is completed. That is 60091 I think.
