Nice way to welcome a new Forum user :(

Unfortunately I can't help with your request. I'm sure somebody will be along soon to help you. It might be an idea to search out one the yahoo groups (or similar) for 'up to the minute' information.

Welcome to the forum.

That's the diagram worked by the set that works the Flying Scotsman service (the 5.40 ex-Edinburgh) by the looks of it. Unfortunately that is rarely the Flying Scotsman branded set as far as collective experience goes, it can end up on anything. But worth a shot, it is on paper just as likely as any other diagram. :D

Thought that might be the case.

Unfortunately, especially with larger companies, it's not as easy as it seems. The diagrams provided above may be correct, but i've also seen it on the York Slow service (approx 1330 into York, 1402 out of York) many times...

Welcome to the forum. :D

Think to start with, it stayed fairly soild on the service, but think now its just common user & goes anywhere on an EC service (under the wires of course, very unlikely to see it at Harrogate, Hull, Inverness & Aberdeen)

Hi 395Johnny and welcome to the forum,
Unfortunatly, I don't think you can find out just yet as the timetabels are been finalised for it's first year in service. If you check the NRM Flyings Scotsman Page, I'm sure it will be on there when they are released.

Hope this helps,

Jacob :D

Well that's nice isn't it! And your advice is not even true, as it won't be allways in Kings Cross, infact their is only a few train services hauled by steam which run now that even to into Kings Cross.

It's all very well trying to own someone on a forum, but by god it helps if you actually understand what were actually talking about...

For those who aren't aware, there are both Flying Scotsman steam loco, and Flying Scotsman painted 91 set operated by East Coast. (which we are talking about...)

As I said, there's little way of knowing what it will work. I was actually being slightly serious with the Kings Cross idea, as if it works, anywhere south of Newark is your best bet...

I often see it when waiting at Potters Bar or WGC on my journey home - it has formed a Leeds service a number of times (the 17:03 from KX ?) that goes through WGC around 17:15 - some days it is going south around that time.

Saw it pass through Potters Bar last Monday, around 2025 (ish) heading to KGX.

And there is me thinking people are supposed to read threads before replying.

To make things more complicated, they seem to have split the DVT and 91 up, saw 91101 running an Edinburgh train first thing with a full EC coloured set, while the DVT was paired with 91115. You know these celebrity marriages, never last more than a couple of weeks.

A few weeks ago I saw the flying scotsman DVT, but I was sure I saw GNER blue coaching stock. I assumed I must have just got the purple and blue mixed up, maybe not then.

Maybe they will stop the mixed xsets once everything is painted into the new liveries?

They were definitely paired on Nov 27th, they were running a Leeds service I caught at Wakefield.

They will keep changing them, but you won't notice! (Unless you meticulously compare DVT/coach/loco numbers).

Of course by then they will probably have new owners and start painting into another new livery, are they not supposed to be retendering the franchise for Dec 2013? Or perhaps whoever buys it will stick with the generic East Coast branding and save a lot of time and money.

Perhaps I'm imagining things, but wasn't it announced that whoever wins the franchise next time round will be obliged to keep the branding and livery, like with ScotRail?

It's quite unusual (in my experience) for DVTs to be split from mark 4 sets and swapped between them, but there've been a few reports on here recently of mixed livery formations being spotted. The 91s are changed over between sets pretty regularly, being split every few weeks, as the maintenance cycle for the 91s is different to that of the carriage rakes.

I have a feeling they're supposed to keep the base livery (the silver/grey) but branding and such like is up to them.

It used to be the case as the DVT belonged to the set and dictated the set number (82210=BN10) but in recently there's been alot of swapping about. You are right about class 91s swapping regular, I've done as many as 4 loco swaps in one night. The Flying Scotsman set isn't very good at keeping to it's diagram, it's regularly at N/L

Is it possible to get a timetable of which services it'll be working?

I was on it this morning, 09:00 Kings Cross- Edinburgh, it was a full silver rake and DVT, but it wasn't the matching DVT

Speaking of which, 43290 is now in the horrible all silver paint scheme like 43315, except they've vinyl'd over or forgotten to replace the 0 sticker on the left side of the cab, so it's now 4329.

I hate the all silver on the HST's btw, the white diagonal bar gives a really good contrast (even if it was the much reviled NXEC livery)

What was wrong with GNER blue :(

It was the only post privatisation livery I actually liked.
