XC delay repay ticket combernation - a bit complicated!

Can anyone give me some clues as to how this may be dealt with?

Ticket 1
Winchester to Banbury 1st FDS £38:90

Ticket 2
Unused return portion of a Winchester to Bloxwich SVR £44.90

Traveld from Winchester to High Wycombe.

XC was delyed into Banbury by aprox14 mins missing the connection (pulled out as we came in)

Train 2 to High Wycombe also was late arriveing 4 mins late.

Total delay 59 or 60 mins (I didn't see the clock untill I got off the train at which point the delay was 60 mins) .

The consiquence to me is that I was too late for my meeting and have to meet the rail fare myself, so ended up going there for no reason whatsoever *very annoyed*

I cought the 13:31 from Winchester to connect with the 15:04 from Banbury.

Any ideas?

Complicated much?

Winchester-Bloxwich return is £68 via London and £71.30 via Oxford so I suspect you have made an error in your post above as I don't know why you'd buy a ticket from Winchester-Banbury if you already had a ticket from Winchester.

If you want to claim Winchester-Bloxwich you need to find out when the 13:31 arrived at BHM and add on the connection. I suspect this would be less than 30 minutes delay so you'd get nothing. XC might have been willing to refund you half the cost of a Winchester-High Wycombe SVR but the only fares available are via London, and you didn't go that way.

I used the Winchester to Boxwich return portion to get to High Wycombe from Banbury and home from there via London.

I could have got to Banbury much cheaper in standard but I wanted to go First Class for that leg.

The fares I have given are railcard disounted fares.

If you don't try, you won't get. I would suggest you explain in a covering letter which tickets you used for which part but because you used an unusual split-ticketing arrangement I wouldn't be surprised if XC come to the conclusion that you aren't entitled to anything, I'm afraid.

I can't say anything regarding Delay Repay (dvboy's suggestion sounds reasonable), but if making the journey again have you considered taking the train to Reading and using the 800/850 bus from Reading to High Wycombe? Should be slightly quicker, and much cheaper.

It's clear they are obliged to pay you something under Delay Repay as your journey was delayed for > 30 minutes. You just have to agree with XC the delay time and price of the journey.

I would argue that your delayed journey from Winchester to High Wycombe cost you £38.90 + £44.90/2 = £61.35 and ask for compensation based on that and 60 minutes' delay.

If they argue that £44.90 is too much for the Banbury to High Wycombe bit, be prepared to negotiate down. You might also have to accept 59 minutes' delay if that's what their records show.

The bus doesn't come back late enough normaly.

The journey is Winchester-High Wycombe and the delay is 59/60 minutes. There is no dispute about that.

Your bottom line is that the FDS should be considered as part of the cost of getting to High Wycome so should be refunded (in half or in its entirety). The rest is up to XC to decide so cross your fingers. I don't recall any definition of how compensation should be calculated in this case.

They gave me £19.15 back in the end although they do claim the delay was 54min - which is absolute tosh as I noted/ the wrote down the time on the clock at High Wycombe as soon as I got off the train and it did not take me 5mins to leave the train.

But hay ho - it's better that a kick in the teeth.

Trouble is I have another claim to put in where I noted the arrive time on the phone so I wouldn't lose it.

...Unfortunately I upgraded Android the other day and forgot. :-x

I must admit I have been known to take a photo of the clock myself, but never thought of snapping the unit as well.
