Hehehe, good idea! They are quite ugly and don't look like 'British' trains really, IMO. ;)

Id say modern is a better word than ugly. Many changes would be made to the design if they were to run in Britain anyway. But i do agree that they dont look like 'British' trains but they wouldnt be the only ones. Namely the class 395 olympic javelin.

If they are just modified 158s, why do they not have any proper coach connectors?
Maybe they have to go around tighter corners so need a bigger gap between coaches?

I've had a return trip on one of those French "153"s. The one out was 2 coachs and one back just single.

Unfortunately the drivers closed the blinds preventing a 1st gen dmu "cab ride" view.

The train looks massive because of theh small platform size there, and bigger kinetic envelope. To access seats at the ends, you have to go up steps, similar to some busses.

It struggled a bit going up hills, but still seemed to accelearate quite well and was comfortable.

Unlike British trains, I felt it was too air-conditioned and was cold.

The toilet seemed to work fine, unless in some modern stock here.

Interestingly, the guard just seemed to do ticketing, and staff at every station dispatched the train with a green SNCF batton.

I don't think they look too bad and wouldn't mind seeing some over here, they're probably more comfortable and look much more streamlined than the 153's (or any British built DMU's) anyway:)

I've got a few angled photos of the 1 & 2 car versions ...

But I think this looks better as a replacement - it even gives opportunity for a cab ride as the cab isnt full width!!!

If you aren't in the cab it isn't a cabride... The Tyne & Wear Metro only has half-width cabs, therefore you are able to practically sit next to the driver.

Pendolino's aren't a british first you know! lol
Personally I do like the look of some of these ultra modern european trains..... although I do love my 153's at the same time.
I believe the word Pendolino is based on the Italian word for Pendulum, Pendolo, with the 'ino' suffix added.

Or some sort of fast accelerating tram train with 1500v AC.

We need to prepare for the end of petrol/deisel vehicles by 2030.

can't agree totally... there are some jobs that electric powered vehicles are just not up to. Ok you're giving just over 20years to electrify all lines but I just can't see it happening, and electricity in itself isn't the cleanest fuel as of how its often made.... I'm not saying things don't need to change but I just can't see it happening.

Maybe we will go down the bio-fuels route like some cars now run on. :flower: power!!

Back on topic, it'll be interesting to see what replaces the 153, something will have to eventually! Imagine a 1 car 185, 3/4 of the train would be taken up by disabled toilet, crumple zones and various other space consuming things!!
