A lot of stations, if they don't smell of burgers, smell of pi55 these days. Country stations are obvious exceptions (although silage and cow pooh might be off-putting).

Today, I had the pleasure of visiting Mistley, just down the Harwich line from Manningtree. What a wonderfully smelly station that was, being situated next to the Edme maltings and 'food ingredients' manufacturing site. Quite delicious, never smelt a station like it - worth a visit just to savour the odour (and the odd container train as well for good measure).

Warrington Bank Quay is next to a Unilever factory, so often smells of soap and Wilkinson Street tram stop is next to a Cussons (or however you spell it) soap factory.

I'm going to have to go with Mexborough, there's a large bakery just down the road and in the evening there is the heavenly scent of baking bread and cinnamon bagels :)
I must admit though Warrington is nice too.

I don't like sniffing in high levels of sulphur, I much prefer anything from a Sulzer (tho nowt wrong with EE!) :)

Go to Blaydon. Wonderful smell of roasting coffee from the coffee mill nearby

Good on yer. A young man with sense. Sulphur is less harmful than the sh*t that comes from claggy old diesels. 'Clag' BTW I looked it up and it means 'nasty or messey materials that cling and stick to garments that can be a danger' So CLAG is excactly right.

I can't remember whether it's Wellingborough or Kettering, but one of them is located neat a Wheatbix factory. If the wind blows in the right direction, it smells wonderful!

There used to be , years ago, a lovely smell of beer [or warm hops] as you passed over the girder bridge east of Bromley by Bow. If the breeze was coming from the north. If the wind was coming from the south you got the pong of the gasworks and the River Lea combined.

Birmingham New Street :toothy4: smells like a bed of roses on a nice summers morning, the station master picking up the rubbish (very little of it) and the shrubs potted on the platforms.

What does shopping smell like? I can't work out what Birmingham New Street smells like.
Many Bham Surburban Stations - the ones I've visited being Yardley Wood, Shirley, Aston, Five Ways, Kings Norton and Bourneville seem in very good nick compared to most stations, considering their area - though the last 4 are very 1970s.

Redland station, which I adopt on the Severn Beach line now smells like Asda SmartPrice Toilet cleaner thanks to my hard work :p

Bust soap pipe...that needs fixing, won't do much for adhesion if it gets on the rails. However, if it makes DK smell nice, perhaps we shouldn't complain. Last time I was there, it smelled of pooh.

On a more serious note, I seem to recall a year or two back, there was a trial of feeding perfume into the air circulation systems on some parts of the underground - anyone shed anymore light on this?

A fragrance called "Madeleine" was introduced at St James Park, Euston and Piccadilly stations on the 23rd March 2001. It was removed on the 24th March 2001 as it was making people feel sick.

Madeleine is a fragrance used on the Paris Metro to combat the smell problem they used to have, and is named after the smelliest station on the network. Oviously the people of London are so used to bad smells that fragrance made the feel sick :)

Cardiff Central... brewery not too far away, if the winds blowing the right way (when theres little amount of trains in) you can smell the beer once in a while...
