Im a frequent Merseyrail passenger

travelling from Spital to Liverpool James Street at a cost of 2.60 peak return

the trains are so busy you have to nearly always stand unless you join from the start of the service or nearby Ellesmere Port/Chester

do you agree those fares are far to high for the distance travelled, the slow stopping service which stops at every station, and poor quality seating

a merseyrail week pass for my zones, is £1.60 more expensive than buying 5 returns in the week.. why?

a month pass saves £2... hardly much!

and a year pass which costs £500 saves £20... but £20 over a year isnt much compared to what the 500 would get you in a bank/inflation

Not really. You stick £500 in a bank for a year, and you would nead to earn more than 5% to get more than £20 a year in interest

According to 'Miles & Chains', it is 5.5 miles. I've compared this with a journey of a similar distance (5.39) from Starbeck to Pannal, and found the SDR fare for this journey is £3.25. A Manchester-Stockport SDR ticket, at 5.80 miles is £4.00. Compared with both these, the Spital-Liverpool fare is good value.

I think that's a bargain, if I were to buy a peak return from my bus stop to the City Centre (not sure of distance, but it's less than 5.5Miles *and* is a bus), then I'd pay £4. I'm not sure of the offpeak fare, but they claim off peak returns are "up to 25% cheaper than 2 singles" (a peak return is the same as 2 singles). Even what you pay is only 20p more than Travel WM (bus company), which is a far cheaper operator (£1.20 max sg (no return fares, so £2.40 rt)).

Every bus I've ever been on in Wolves have had £1.80 return, just ask the driver (if he can speak english!)

£2.60 for a 5mile standard day return? What are you moaning about thats seriously cheap. L.Buzz-M.K is 9.59 miles and the SDR is nearly a tenner! Euston (40.21 miles) is over £20.

There is a shocking difference between PTE and non-subsidised fares-
Brum-Cov is £2.70 (yp,cdr) whilst Rug a mere 10miles further is £4.75...Cov-Rug itself £2.85

I've never known TWM to issue returns, just singles and daysavers or whatever they are called. Can get the gyppo diamond bus now, they even give change...

In Wolverhampton, isn't there a bus company called "Banger Buses", which pretty much sums up the place!

I've done a quick search on the web and can't find any record of this company, though I'm sure there are plenty of operators which qualify for this name! Going back around 10 years, there was a company which operated around Sheffield (Northern of Aston), and they had a huge fleet of old Bristol REs, VRs etc - they even held events like RE running days when they put on a load of relief services!

Clangerbells in Birmingham. And £1.10 return. Well it costs £1.65 (Child) to go from Birmingham to the Airport so that's cheap compared to us. £760 for a year pass and £560 for train only. nTrain said nuh train

I know there's a company called Banga Travel which is probably the same people as Metcam mentioned.

Is that how you're supposed to pronnounce the new tickets - which look good on paper, but a challenge to actually ask someone for.

why do a pass that saves you £2 a month?

when it'll cost 3 quid for passport photos, so you'd make a loss

Probably because there are other journeys that can be made where it offers a better saving, such as from the next few stations down the line...

Plus it allows you to undertake more than 5 return journeys a week. Travel more often and you'd save more!

just think though. £2 goes along way over 12 months, get £24 to get that al important Valentines prezzie.
