Free parking on road leading to cemetery just north of depot, but keep well clear of bridge, which is used by heavy lorries. The west side of the bridge is also the best photo spot - too much vegetation if you go down the road nearer to the depot. Not the best of photo locations due to overhead wires.

Other possible locations in the area are:

Bamfurlong, footpath on east side of line, heading south from A58 at approximate map reference SD600 017. Best for morning photos. Lots of yellow lines on A58 but you should be able to find somewhere to park within a few minutes walk from the path.

Worthington (Standish), footbridge about 2 to 3 miles north of Wigan. Map reference about SD577097. No road access - find somewhere to park on A5106 then walk along footpath to bridge.

Wigan North Western station - best to travel by train. Car parking in Virgin (expensive) station car park, or longish walk from cheaper or free car parks on fringe of town centre.
