I was collecting material from Totton coal yard earlier {a derelict yard in the southampton area} when i noticed that an EWS wagon is still parked up at the rail entrance to the yard, several months after it first arrived.
Has this wagon been forgotten about, already?

A few months? Is that all?

There was a wagon abandoned between Keadby station and the bridge over the M181. It was there for about 15 years. EWS moved (and presumably scrapped) it about 5 years ago though. Mind you, I'm sure there is plenty of examples of wagons being abandoned for longer than that.

There are 2 wagons at Brockenhurst that were up for sale a few years ago... still haven't been moved!

Why not hijack a lowloader, steal it and sell it back to them for a high amount of money?

Yeah, we've got 3 sidings full of wagons and Swanwick Junction that are never going to be moved again! We could do with scrapping the lot and building a carriage shed there! Apparantly most of the wagons in those sidings actually came to us in brilliant operational condition on the mainline!

There has been a rake of cement waggons in the sidings at Cambridge from some point before privatisation. They're apparently moved occasionally to avoid them rusting to the rails.

They're very obvious in the photos of the hull trains invasion which I'll get around to publishing at some point.

'Ello! <D
Firstly: I agree with Slash about the 458's...I reckon that SWT could make a fortune sealing them up and selling them on as family size fish tanks...But any uses other than that? Answers on a postcard please! :D
(Although if SWT want rid of three of them and I can find a workshop somewhere, I'll have a bash and see if I can build prototype SMUs out of two of them! 8))

On the subject of abandoned vehicles: Does anyone know where I can pick up a surplus DMU or two? There's a space at Farnborough (The old platform 3) that would make an ideal parking spot... ;)

Not really - it'd get attacked by chavs from the car park side and fare-dodging chavs from the platform 2 side ;) You'd be better off behind the tall fence of the NR access point at the far end of the car park where the old sidings left the mainline before the car park was built...

You'd of thought he'd known that, Coxster
Hello! <D
Aye, but alas I'm not as experienced/knowlegable about the subject as most users of this forum!
(That, and I never really paid much attention to that NR access point, but Coxter's right...There's more than enough space for a private siding or two down there! :D)

The wagon in one of the sidings to the year at Totton is still there! I checked it out Friday from the footbridge connecting Asda's with the industrial estate. It has a load of ballast in it, and because of its position half-way along the siding it would appear to be used as a ballast "store". The gpls all appear to be in good order.

One at Knottingley, some at Stourton, one at Lefarge near Stalybridge, some on the S&C at Hellifield that are still loaded with goods!

I think the wagon at Toton Yard is an MHA. If I recall it has been there sometime from the last lot of engineering works that was carried out at Toton earlier this year.

Kinda reminds me of those wagons that were left in Eastleigh's yard opposite platform 3 to rot for over 10 years.

Cheers

They have been there since before 1990 in my old days on Cambridge Platform,

Wagons do have a habit of being left where they stand when they get broken, they even found 1 in the undergrowth when they pulled down what was left of Ravenscraig
