Every time I'm in Hull Paragon there seems to be a team of people nursing at least 158. Yesterday evening it was two that appeared not to want to start.

Is this commmon?

Are you sure they were matinence/fitters? Could they be the crew/the ISS lot doing the rounds?

I recently travelled on 158799, and it had a couple of failed starts at Lincoln. I believe (thanks to people on here) that the alternator was playing up as well, with carriage lighting dropping on and off.

Well the one I saw yesterday had no less than 6 hivizs around it while another was leaning out the cab window with the starter whirring away.

I do remember hearing that 158s and 156s, don't fire first time when they are started.

Any truth in this?

I don't see why that should be, with 156s certainly, since they're exactly the same engines as 150s, nd most 158s do as well, albeit slightly uprated. 158s do of course have more of a load on the electrics, with air con and so on, so it might be more of a drain on the nattery, i suppose.

* Battery, not nattery.

156s are ok but by the sound of EMTs 158s deff not. They do eventually start & then sound ok, but it is fingers & toes crossed for a bit.
