Right i am going on a day out to walk in the dales.
I am travelling leeds to dent but for my friend it is slightly more complicated.

He is travelling chapeltown burley park on friday evening. Then we are travelling leeds dent on saturday morning (6:19 burley park doesn't have a connection that early) then doing ribbelhead burley park saturday evening. Then he is travelling burley park to chapeltown on sunday morning.

This is all for this weekend. I haven't given times because it is on northern therefore no advance fares so its not particularly relevant i just need ticket types.

Now last year he got a chapeltown ribblehead ticket, anytime return. I was under impression he could do ribblehead leeds friday then leeds ribblehead return saturday then ribblehead chapeltown sunday. However we were told that this was invalid and had to be persuaded not make us pay full fare for a new ticket. I am just wanting some clarification on the rules and with evidence so i can back myself up should i need to.

Just wanting any advice please.

If my thoughts are correct then i believe the cheapest way is an anytime return between chapeltown - dent, then just get the singles he needs when doing leeds - burley park?

An Anytime Return Chapeltown Yorks - Dent route Any Permitted (Adult £24.70, Railcard £16.30, Child £12.35) is valid:

Day 1 - Friday
Chapeltown - Leeds

Day 2 - Saturday
Leeds - Dent
Ribblehead - Leeds

Day 3 - Sunday
Leeds - Chapeltown.

It is not valid between Leeds and Burley Park, and separate tickets must be bought.

last year ... we were told that this was invalid
Fortunately, the outward portion of Anytime Return tickets is now printed Valid: FIVE DAYS and the Return portion Valid: ONE MONTH.

Yes it said that last year and was almost the same circumstances but we were told it was invalid. Was the conductor definitely in the wrong telling us that? Don't want the same situation occuring today?

Thank you by the way :) much appreciated.

The text on the ticket itself is pretty much a giveaway.

Any staff who claim that such a ticket is invalid on the second day of the outbound validity should be brought to the attention of the management team so that further training can be arranged.

Well yes i thought that... but she said you have to complete the whole journey on the same day. But then that doesnt make sense with the within 5 day things.

Okay well thanks guy much appreciated :) If they question it this time ill just argue the toss.

This is complete rubbish. There is no such requirement that you need to complete the whole journey on the day unless you are on a Day ticket. Even then there are exceptions.

Anytime tickets do not have break of journey restrictions so you can spend as long as you want doing your journey, provided that it is done within the validity of the ticket.

Sorry to bump this thread up, He just got on the train, and she has dated the ticket. So when we try catch the train in the morning will there be an issue?

There shouldn't be, but he could ask her to further endorse it that he's only used part of the ticket that day. Also, having the unused and unmarked return portion helps to allay fears that fraud is being commited.
