Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

No, it was after the Mk3s started. 67s actually worked with the Mk2s for a short while. 1704919880 There may have been a few occasions when they ran top n tail but it was not the norm (usually to allow running via Wrexham, from memory). A search of Flickr shows more instances of pairs with the...

    Transport for Wales Class 230

Without wishing to be too negative, the way you tell it seems TfW are to blame for expecting the trains to perform? I’ve been told they need 16 hours for the batteries to cool down between use - if true, surely that’s unacceptable? Pretty hard to justify the £5 million per unit to Welsh...

    Toilets on Mid Wales line?

I think you mean the Central / Heart of Wales? The Mid Wales line shut in 1962.

    4468 Mallard's 50th Anniversary Railtours

I’ve got a phot of it at York after arrival from Scarborough on 25th August 86. Had no idea (or long since forgotten) it was only its third passenger train since preservation.

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

It wasn’t top n tail with 57s. The trains were booked via Crewe in those days to avoid reversal at Chester. 67s and Mk3s enabled them to go push-pull and run via Wrexham, thus serving more Welsh towns.

    Transport for Wales Class 230

From what I recall, the original intention was they’d be used on the Blaenau branch (1), Crewe to Chester (1) and Wrexham to Bidston (2). Things changed and the four diagrams were to be concentrated on the Bidston line with an enhanced service, but the way things are now four 230 would be...

Conwy, Penmaenmawr and Llanfairfechan now compulsory stops?

As L401CJF says, now mandatory stops rather than request. I remember asking years back why they were requests given it was rare for a train not to call and was told it was a fudge to make the time table work. The minute or two saved allowed tighter Holyhead turn rounds.

Class 197104 Smoking @ Manchester Piccadilly

The loose bolts were found prior to 104s incident. No 197s have been removed from service as a result of the Piccadilly incident other than 104.

    Still at Longsight.

TfW 15x/17x withdrawals (17x now finished)

As you say, the consensus was it was likely to only come out to cover other units. My comment doesn’t contradict that. Expected to be released off exam / repairs towards the end of next week and, assuming that happens, it will be used as required in the remaining days before transfer.

    Prettiest Stations in the UK

Hadn’t got off there for almost 30 years until this week and had forgotten how nice Bradford-on-Avon is, both station and setting.

It’s also expected to work a bit before it leaves.

Portsmouth Harbour Station - Run-around loop / Station Pilot

In the 80s, all loco-hauled arrivals except 33/1+TC had a second loco follow the train in from Fratton which worked the next one back out. On the rare occasions there wasn’t a 33 (or other mainline loco) available, the Fratton pilot (08/09) came down and shunt-released the inward loco.

TfW 15x/17x withdrawals (17x now finished)

If it had been available for traffic, chances are it would have been used daily. Current fleet shortages would have ensured that. However, it’s been stopped for three weeks so hasn’t come out to play.
