    Propranolol

I was on propranolol for 10 years, 7 years of which I was safety critical as a signaller. They weren't concerned about the medication more about the condition I was taking it for (migraines). Medical had to be signed of by a railway doctor and I haad to report any issues to my manager but other...

    A career as a signaller

I don't think there are any immediate plans currently for any of the branch boxes. Doesn't mean that the boxes are any more or less at risk of closing than any other box around the country. Transfering of signalling takes a lot of work and isn't something that just happens overnight.

Think you have to go through occupational health, your line manager should sort it out depending on what's required.

There's no harm in putting in the application. The Devon Relief have fixed rest days, cant speak for Cornwall as I don't know, so you will know when your rest days are, but you won't know what shifts you are working or where you are working until the Thursday before. A night shift can lead into...

    A career as a signaller

Just got to remember an "entry level" job might be paid more than a higher grade. I made more as a grade 3 relief than I did as a grade 7. However I was working a lot more so it's swings and roundabouts. But having to remember several sets of local instructions and different signalling methods...

Drivers eye view: What interesting things have you seen?

There is a life size and very realistic looking white tiger model on a garage roof between Torre and Torquay. Needless to say first time I saw it I thought something had go out of the zoo.

    GWR Turbo height

Correct, some have been done some haven't. The ones that have been done have a triangle on the cab wit RHM (Ride Height Modifications) written on it.

Are light engine convoys of six locos or more now designated as Class 6?

I thought they went as 0X if they where over five due to weight restrictions.

How often are Railway Emergency Calls made?

5 years signalling never had a red REC, plenty of white ones and a couple of urgents but they where nothing to write home about. Had a few landline emergency calls. A question for the drivers out there. If the Signaller sends a urgent call does it ring differently to a normal call?

    A career as a signaller

I went from a crossing keeper at old signal box to a roc. While I don't necessarily regret the move, I soon discovered being in a roc was not for me for various reasons. Some people love the roc environment and others hate it. Its really a personal opinion. Being there did give me a wealth of...

Definitely think the day and night links would work well. I'll sign up for permanent 12 hour day shift, cant stand nights.
