    Transport for Wales Class 230

I just cannot understand why anyone objects to bilingual announcements and notices. Common in Belgium and Switzerland for example. Having been on an excellent 197 on the route I found the info fine. The timetable has had a decent week so far too. This is a Welsh English route with genuine...

What's been the single most exciting development for UK heritage railways in 2023?

Good positive substantive points hope you are proved right regarding precedent too!

Projects you'd build but will (probably) never happen

Easily the quickest route historically from most of both sides of the Mersey conurbation to Chester, North Wales and Shropshire, and to a much lesser extent Crewe, is via Birkenhead and Hooton using the old LNWR/GWR mainline. This currently functions as a trundling all stations high frequency...

Trivia: Place names where ALL the vowels are "wrong"

You can also hear Bew-ker-loo too the TfW and previous TOC station announcements on Borderlands refer to “HEZZwhorl” where is should be Hezzwull (English pronounced) or Hesswal (Welsh pronounced) so they don’t get that right at all

What would a "pro-growth" rail agenda look like?

Agree with this good little summary and would add the importance of railfreight in respect of network capacity increases and of more rolling stock in actual passenger capacity. Maybe some more route miles added too, possibly Very Light Rail to plug obvious missing links. Sadly concur too that...

Bidston Wrexham ORR Judgement on TfW / GBRF

Agree with this! is has been static in timetable terms for decades, the timetable improvements will also make connections at Shotton considerably better opening up both Chester and North Wales to West Wirral as well as at Wrexham for Shrewsbury and points south and west. I do also hope there is...

Bidston Wrexham ORR Judgement on TfW / GBRF

That’s a really important question but I haven’t seen an answer anywhere yet myself.

Bidston Wrexham ORR Judgement on TfW / GBRF

Don’t get me started again ! Two slow routes is better than one, but limited stop services on the Birkenhead Chester route used to be much faster than current timings until 1967. If you want to get people out of cars you have to do better than that for a 20 mile journey.

Bidston Wrexham ORR Judgement on TfW / GBRF

The Wrexham Bidston Rail Users Association release says this “The WBRUA welcomes this long-awaited decision. It is pleased to note that two passenger trains an hour will run for most of the day, albeit that the additional services are being planned as limited stop and will not call at some...

Bidston Wrexham ORR Judgement on TfW / GBRF

I think so yes! I only read it quickly, ORR also criticise NR for not defining the route as “congested“ given this tussle for paths and for not having produced a plan to sort it.

Bidston Wrexham ORR Judgement on TfW / GBRF

Here it is, seems pretty good considering the infrastucture constraints! Even handed to passenger and freight. ORR Wrexham Bidston Line

World Beating Britain as usual then :D including the same items in the UK as those covered in this German example is maybe not the same as weighting their importance and including them in terms of business case benefit cost ratios? Just Askin’ as they say:D
