New Mills Central landslip - 6 week closure

I don’t sign HG to Buxton direct but I’m sure on the 3973 it was something minimal like 5mph. The freight speed the whole way is not much more than 25 or 30, although it’s still quicker than going via Chinley/Peak. the only reason you don’t often see loaded coming out that way is because you...

New Mills Central landslip - 6 week closure

Hearing on the grapevine this has been extended to approx 14 weeks from initial closure now. Be fun for the freight getting up to the peaks at night around all the scheduled closures. At the moment everything is running via Northwich, but this closes once in 6 weeks, along with new mills south...

    Birmingham Moor Street gate line

The barriers on P1 at the bottom of the stairs near the main road have been removed and replaced with wooden boxes, so you can currently access the station via the stairs to P1 with no ticket at all. The P2 side is overdue widening, be good to have two sets one as in and one as out to try and...

    Hope Valley Capacity Scheme updates

I’ve always wondered at times like this why they don’t run a Sheffield (or derby) to lime street via derby uttoxeter stoke Stockport and EMR just hire route conductors between Stoke and Stockport via Macc. It could be none stop between derby and Stockport apart from maybe Stoke.

    Hope Valley Capacity Scheme updates

Of course you could extend the new mills stopper but turn it back at Grindleford under the new layout. It would miss out dore and Sheffield, but provide an extra stopper over the majority of the hope valley.

    Hope Valley Capacity Scheme updates

Why can’t 6L45 be given the road once the train in front has passed S46 and give the freight 2 yellows so it can begin climbing the bank?

Great Central Railway News and Updates

Timetables now online: https://www.gcrailway.co.uk/special-events/beer-festival/ Live music at Quorn Fri & Sat. I’ve 68-70 cask beers coming, then some boxed beer on the trains also, along with 25 ciders. Food stalls at Quorn to compliment the music.

    May 2023 changes

Then you get me trundling through on my 100 SLU container train, getting given yellow red yellow red, expected to keep moving but with air having to run the whole length of the train for the brakes to release each time....

NR Crewe "Signalling Failure" - affects 2 tocs but not the third one?! (25/03)

most the intermediate pointwork down there is 40, except the 50's at sandbach and wilmslow. 25 crossovers south end of Sandbach, but 1 crossover wont cause yo to lose 9 minutes. The bidi line speed is only 60 though vice 110, so this is where you will have lost some time.

Tank Containers on the Tesco Inverness Train

The gas comes from the isle of grain by road to Daventry, the long way around the M25 due to being banned from the Dartford tunnel. They travel north using S44/S45. When they get to Mossend they get transshipped onto the Inverness Tesco train, then roaded from there to Wick and Shetland.

    Hope Valley Capacity Scheme updates

I’m still not sure I understand the thinking behind this. You’ve got a 2500T freight, gets going from Chinley, struggles climbing over the top at Cowburn, just about hits 60 before Bamford, with enough momentum to get up the hill to Grindleford, but then stop it and put it in a loop. Wait...

    Skelton Junction (Altrincham) flooding

The whole section of railway from Hale to Northenden and also Northwich area is a big mess. The vegetation is horrendous, although they have recently cleared the trees to provide better sighting of the signal on the curve on the down at Skelton/Deansgate. I’m pretty sure in modern standards...
