    GWR good customer service

The one that really annoyed me was waiting (coincidentally) at Bristol Parkway when the train I was waiting for was having to run very slowly, but the automated system was operating as if it was going at line speed. So it would keep being announced as the next train, then another train coming in...

    GWR good customer service

I think there's a lot of truth to that, but there is of course a lot of variation in how on board staff communicate and this was very much at the better end, hence me thinking it worthy of comment. They were and of course that's another reason to make announcements - because you certainly...

    Gallery cars in Chicago

I'm talking about double level coaches where the upper level consists of a balcony on each side with an area open to the lower level between them. I don't know who made them. Aren't some of them being replaced with more conventional double deck coaches from Alstom?

Night train from Paris to Barcelona

I wish I'd been able to do that bit in the light!

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

Yes there will be times that they area asking for a relatively large fee for an "obvious" split when you wouldn't paid the full amount. In which case you can of course just do it as separate bookings on Trainsplit.

    Gallery cars in Chicago

Following on from the useful thread on what to see rail-wise in Chicago, does anyone know if gallery cars are still in use in the area?

Night train from Paris to Barcelona

I'd highly recommend the route (assuming the sleeper is running - I have a vague memory of suggestions that it might be suspended for a while due to engineering work). I did the French side in the dark and it looked as if would have been rather scenic in the light. The Spanish side was...

    Trainspotting in Spain

I certainly had no trouble a couple of years back wandering round non high speed train platforms and taking photos. On "high speed" (i.e. standard gauge) platforms my experience was of being herded round like getting on and off aircraft.

    GWR good customer service

Not really a risk when at a platform. But the (non) updates were still welcome.

Good Customer Service In The Bus/Coach Industry

It's certainly not local. On the other hand, I complained to Stagecoach recently by email about what looked like the removal of a day ticket that would result in very large fare increases for groups travelling. It turns out that they had just phrased the information on the web site badly and I...

Good Customer Service In The Bus/Coach Industry

Well here's how not to do it. Waiting for a Stagecoach bus. Nothing showing in realtime on Bustimes or the app. No sign of the bus when it was due. Ask on Twitter if it's running as it's not showing on the app. The answer - telling me that if it was cancelled at short notice then the app...

    GWR good customer service

I was caught up in the disruption yesterday on GWR, and was impressed with the guard on the train I was on as we sat at Bristol Parkway for over an hour, waiting for things to start moving further down the line. He made frequent announcements, even when he didn't have anything new to say. I...

    New National Rail website

I suppose the good news is that most people use the Trainline as if it were the official source...

LNER to pilot removal of Off-Peak tickets

Quite. Perhaps the country just can't afford this any more and we have to acccept that those who can't drive are just going to find their lives made even harder than it is at the moment. (And I really, really, hope this isn't the case - it's very much the wrong direction to be going in in my...

LNER to pilot removal of Off-Peak tickets

Because in return for the subsidy we have a country in which those who don't or can't drive get to travel without having to plan their lives in advance? It's all very well saying that airlines do it so trains should as well but that's not much use to people who use the train not the plane...
