    Scotland's 'polar express'

[PL] Access to timetable info and internet ticket sale restricted by geolocation.

The original story, in Polish, is here. Here are the crucial bits, translated by DeepL: The third degree alert level was a hysterical reaction of the previous government. The current one has more urgent issues to deal with than to fix train ticket buying.

Travel from Belgium to Slovakia on a brand new train route in 2024

Don't book your tickets yes, all this is under consideration for now in at least two countries: Quoted from the Euronews [emphasis added]. Absolutely wonderful, arriving in Bratislava (and in Ostend on the return journey) at 1 am. I guess some nightclubs will still be open....

RailUK tickets asks for personal information

The seller should clearly differentiate between the payer's and recipient's data. If you book an air ticket you are asked for passenger's name first and payer's details later. And it is made very clear whose name the airline wants at each step.

RailUK tickets asks for personal information

I see. All is fine and clear if before buying tickets I spend some time reading privacy policies, modern slavery statements &c. Instead I'll go and buy tickets elsewhere.

RailUK tickets asks for personal information

And the buyer is supposed to guess that?

RailUK tickets asks for personal information

First of all this is before you select the method of payment. One may have multiple credit cards with different addresses. Secondly it's definitely not clear whether the site wants the details of the buyer or of the passenger. They may be two different people.

RailUK tickets asks for personal information

When booking through that site, after selecting route, dates, times &c, while proceeding to checkout, a "personal details" screen appears which asks for name, country and postal code. WHY?
