Cambridge South new station construction progress.

There is a thread discussing the timetables here. One of the posts in that thread suggests that "Logically, the waits at Cambridge will be reduced by the stopping time for required for Cambridge South thus meaning no further time table work needed". I'm not convinced that's true for every...

    New Cambridge South Station Timetable

I wonder if some of the longer waits could be shifted to be at Cambridge South instead of Cambridge (for southbound trains), and at Cambridge North instead of Cambridge (for northbound trains). That way the services between North and South would never be artificially delayed. It seems more...

    New Cambridge South Station Timetable

Greater Anglia trains often wait for 4 minutes at Cambridge (both Norwich to Stanstend and Cambridge North to Liverpool Street), and CrossCountry for 6 minutes. So it's not just related to Great Northern's attachments/detachments. (Again I only looked southbound, and only for the next few hours...

    New Cambridge South Station Timetable

A lot of trains have a long wait at Cambridge, e.g. looking at Great Northern southbound trains for today a lot of them are: 4 minutes from Cambridge North to Cambridge 7 minute wait at Cambridge 4 minutes from Cambridge to Shepreth Branch Junction (so call it 3 minutes to the new station?)...

    Strange Formations

Really glad to have stumbled upon this thead. Earlier this week as I was arriving in Cambridge, I was idly starting out of the window into the sidings as my train trundled past them, and I noticed various "<n> car stop" signs dotted around the sidings. Most of them made sense to me: 4, 8, 12, 5...

How many minutes to refund ticket at booking office?

I had a bizarre experience at Ely a few months ago. I arrived at the station, there was clearly major disruption (many, but not all, trains showing as cancalled, and a replacement bus pulling out of the car park as I arrived). A train I could use was showing as running, albeit later than the...

    Minimum connection times

Some stations have different connection times if you're connecting between different TOCs. The National Rail timetables don't appear to show these different times. I know that they're visible at brtimes.com, but is there an official source for stations with multiple different connection times...

Seemingly valid routeing not showing in journey planners

There is one East Midlands train per week that uses this route, on a Sunday afternoon, presumably for drivers to retain route knowledge in case it's ever needed as a diversion due to problems at Ely itself, where East Midlands would normally reverse...

    Avanti delay repay

Off-topic for the original question, but I note that table above says that a 15-29 minute delay on a season ticket gets me "25% of the cost of a season ticket". Really? Not 25% of a small proportion of the cost of the season ticket that is roughly equal to the cost of one journey? That's very...

    Storm Henk travel disruption 02/01/24

A colleague left the office (in Cambridge) early at about 1600 yesterday, saying they wanted to miss the worst of the wind that was now being forecasted, and was laughed at by the rest of us in the room. Thirty minutes later, the building was rattling. I chose to leave not long after that and...

    New National Rail website

Thanks for the fix. I didn't realise how much I make use of the ability to just type my journey into a URL until it stopped working fully and I had to use a "real" journey planner!

    Storm Henk travel disruption 02/01/24

There is now a 1Z99 which I assume is rescuing the broken train. Journey planners are suggesting the first Ely to Cambridge service will be Greater Anglia's 0728 to Liverpool Street, and then a small number of further cancellations, with a full service from 1000.

    New National Rail website

I've always used https://traintimes.org.uk for journey planning, which screenscrapes from the NRE site. I've been amazed that it has continued to work, but using it today I've realised that its ability to do via/avoid points now seems to be broken, so I guess it doesn't have long left until it...

Query about London ticket offered by TrainSplit

Up-thread somebody linked to another thread on a similar topic. That thread had a post which said that the confusing validity text was trying to be resolved but the timescales were uncertain...

Query about London ticket offered by TrainSplit

But the base ticket (if that's the correct term) is the £28 Cambridge to Finsbury Park, not to Farringdon. Or at least we're assuming that's what the base ticket is.
