    We need more information - see the 'sticky' "Please read before posting in the Disputes and Prosecutions section". If it was in England, then the chances are that the Railway Company would pursue a criminal prosecution against you, but debt collection agencies only has the power to pursue a civic debt. Is it just a letter chasing a debt with a threat of Court if its not received?

    If it was utterly impossible to buy a ticket on the day of travel (not exactly what you've said here), then you must write back to clarify that fact. But if there was an opportunity to pay on board or there was a ticketmachine, you should accept the charge.

    Please reply on the forum and not by visitor messages, and please provide details of the exact charge that was issued to you. There will be others on here who can give you reliable and thorough advice. Thanks.
