Trivia: which railway station is furthest from the town it serves?

Brampton in Cumbria. It's about 2.3 miles to the centre of the town. Nightmare when you are trying to get a pint in at every station.

Is Tyne and Wear Metro the only user of 1500v DC overhead electrification?

Is it only in use in the UK by Tyne and Wear Metro, or do other light rail/tram systems use this?

    Leaf Fall

Obviously the effects of leaf fall can be reduced by managing lineside vegetation, but is there any railhead treatment that is used to resist/prevent the formation of leaf mulch on the rail? I ask as this caused havoc on the Tyne and Wear Metro last year, they say they have taken steps to...

    Bendy Buses

So if the front end is unpowered and the rear is surely that would increase the chances of it jack-knifing though?

    Bendy Buses

I regularly travel on one of Go North East's X40 Bendy buses. A colleague raised a question about them and I've been puzzling over the answer since: As they are a powered trailer and a 'dead' tractor so to speak, how come they do not jackknife often and easily? I couldn't quite figure it out...

Tyne and Wear Metro strike 28th May

Has now been confirmed as called off, service as usual tomorrow.

Norther Rail - Genuine Mistake - Fare Evasion Feb 2013

Apologies if this is too off topic and not the most constructive, but it is possible to have your post redirected by Royal Mail. For the guys arguing about procedure and Serco's involvement, none of that is relevant. So the original prosecution was under RORA. If there is a signed statment by...

Nexus hit Metro bosses DB Regio with £500,000 performance fine

Their performance has been appalling so quite right too. Failings from both parties without a doubt, but I don't think anyone will be surprised to hear this.

    Tyne and Wear Metro

Noticed this week that the barroers at Haymarket appear to have been moved 4/5 foot or so back from their original position so there is more space between them and the escalators.

    Tyne and Wear Metro

Accept my apologies, it wasn't quite what you said.

    Tyne and Wear Metro

Consistency, do it for one line so do it for all. If there is a delay that will cause me to be more than a minute or two late then I'd expect some information on it, otherwise I don't really care if we have to stop at a red signal - it really isn't important. Interestingly, a few posts...

    Tyne and Wear Metro

London underground is a different kettle of fish entirely though. A lot more people will be anxious of being stopped in a dark tunnel many meters below the surface, whereas on Metro most of the places you'll be held are in the open air. If a delay means I'm going to get to my destination later...

    Tyne and Wear Metro

I use Haymarket twice a day and I've not once seen them in use.

    Tyne and Wear Metro

I'm more miffed about them arranging a meet the manager session on a weekday in office hours. No option for commuters who use the service everyday to get to work and back to have their say.
