    Is international travel actually necessary?

When HIV was discovered in 1984 a vaccine was promised by the following year and it is still awaited 35 years later. if we as it for a Covid vaccine we could be locked down for the rest of my life and long after.

Long term social distancing: Impact on public life & public transport?

I see in today's Times that SNCF, having enforced distancing for 3 weeks, has now released all seats as normal. Given our risk averse government (and population) we might follow their example in about 2023.

    Strangest bus destination screens?

The absence of via points works fine in London; previously the via points could be confusing and I have had visitors who went the wrong way. When the via blinds were stopped almost every bus stop was fitted with a diagramatic route map so there can be no confusion.

Long term social distancing: Impact on public life & public transport?

The risk in London based on the renowned R number and recorded new infections seems quite low. The World Health Oganisation recommends a distance of one metre which would be more manageable than the two enforced here.

    Trivia - Bus Stop Oddities

Having checked today that it is still there there is an LT bus stop in a residential street in Lower Feltham. Back in the day (Routemasters) this was a short working terminus for alternate journeys on the 117 and then 237. Buses departed continuing round a loop back to Chertsey Road. This stop...

    Trivia: Britain's Strangest Bus Routes

Having looked these up United had services from Middlesbrough via West Hartlepool to Prudhoe on the first Saturday in each month and from West Hartlepool to Stannington on visiting days only. As far as I can tell from the fare table the Prudhoe service picked up only as far as WH by then at all...

We must enable the economy to recover as soon as practicable

I believe that the virus will always be with us in some form, like the flu virus - although we have flu vaccines they do not always work because the virus keeps changing and so people still catch flu. We will have to accept that Covid is withus, some will catch it and of those unfortunately some...

    Liverpool to London sleeper service

I have never done so, but if I were to share a cramped sleeper cabin with a complete stranger I would probably wish to have a few first!

    Coronavirus and the railways

This is of course a matter of concern, but I am not panicking yet. Even in Italy, which seems to be the most affected European country, the number of cases as a percentage of the total population is tiny and most people affected are only miledly unwell.

Break of journey - what happens if guard signs ticket?

I can't understand these days why guards mark a ticket with a scrawl which is meaningless to anyone else. If some can have a time and date stamp (or at least one that shows the train running number) why can't this be universal?

Help! The Dark Art of The Routeing Guide and "ANY PERMITTED"

I think that I have maybe mentioned this before but a friend who used to work for ATOC told me that only one man fully understood the routing guide and when he retires all will be lost! I think that I understand the working of it but - With modern computers a system such as Google maps can give...

    Strangest bus destination screens?

Stockton Corporation used to have a destination of SWEETHILLS which sounded like a good place for a picnic; in fact it was a paint research site on the edge of the ICI chemical works.

Sorry but this maybe a rather complicated question

I know nothing about this specific route, but it you have a ticket from London Terminals to just about anywhere within reason, and Euston is a London terminal, surely you have a valid ticket and staff should not object at the gateline - you would then be on your own.

    The ABC Rail Guide

The company that produced the ABC also did shipping and air service ABCs - when air fares were standardised the latter had timetables and fares for every air service in the world.

Will there be enough taxis to carry the huge numbers of passengers going to Sugar Loaf?
