Train accident in Mainland China ( pictures )

    Oh my! Whereabouts was this?

    Lights on Front of Trains?

I've often wondered why there's a day/night mode. The UK is the only country that, I know of, does this.

What kind of car do you drive?

2009 Holden (Vauxhall) Astra CD 1.8L petrol 5-speed manual.

    Railways in Australia

Yup. The S, R, and L sets are a random mixture of Comeng-built and Goninan-built stock. It's only been since the introduction of the K sets that they've been less random - and even then, they were a mix of first (with forced air ventilation, initially) and second (fully air-conditioned) series...

Best place to see lots of freight on a weekday

    Barnetby is another hotspot.

National Express Group to give up franchises??

The very same, AR. Though, I do remember reading an interview with Richard Bowker, stating that a franchise shouldn't be re-negotiated, should times get tough. This was when GNER was given notice to hand back their keys. I can't remember which magazine it was in, now. Possibly Rail.

    TOCs with free Wi-Fi ?

The last time I caught a Pendolino, they were testing then. And that was two years ago. :)

    Fotopic Problems

This is my opinion, but I'm having trouble buying the line that it's just a hardware problem, router or otherwise. It's in a company's best interest to fix something like this ASAP. That's my 9p (inflation, of course!)

    Fotopic Alternatives

I have my own server, full of mostly crap photographs. :) One day, I'll have to learn to make it all searchable.

What's your favourite modern freight Workshorse?

I'd probably have to say the class 66. Globally, though, I'd have to say the SD70ACe. I thought they looked ugly, at first, but they grew on me after a while.

    Virgin Voyager

Hi JJ, The Voyagers were never actually owned by Virgin Trains. Rather, they were leased from Angel Trains - a rolling stock leasing company. The 220s have moved over to CrossCountry, along with some 221s. As the branding and nameplates are property of Virgin Trains, these obviously needed...

    RAW Converting

IrfanView is also a good one. It's free, and it's also 'portable', meaning you can run it from a memory stick, portable harddrive, etc. http://www.irfanview.com/ I did need to install the Canon DLL's to open CR2 files (the IrfanView website also explained how to do that).

    Say goodbye to EWS!

I did read, somewhere (and I can't remember, for the life of me, where it was now), last week, that the fleet will be eventually be painted in DB red livery. I, for one, am going to miss the modified Wisconsin Central livery. I also think that DB Schenker will repaint the fleet very quickly -...
