'Bumping' - is it becoming a serious problem?

Beyond more obvious solutions (i.e. increasing the number of stations with barriers + increasing RPI staff), what more could be feasibly done here? I'm imagining that you could theoretically replace barriers with turnstiles (though raises Qs about fire safety and luggage), or make greater use...

    Class 745

Not actually a location, 'hemos llegado a' is a translation of 'We have arrived at'. As for how/why...I'm sure it's something, something, Spanish Inquisition...

    Eurovision

I saw one of the semi-final shows earlier in the week, it was a great experience and Liverpool has really shined throughout this whole process. In terms of the votes, while Loreen (Sweden) was undoubtedly great, I don't think her song would have won the jury vote with anywhere near the numbers...

How do I get from London to Glastonbury?

    From the official Glastonbury website:

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

I don't think this would be an issue. The actual payment is settled back-of-house, including when being challenged by revenue enforcement, which would account for the railcard. Revenue inspection devices would only the list of railcard users so they can challenge someone to show their railcard...

Armed Forces to the Coronation by Train

I saw them in the morning yesterday, they were turning towards Westminster Bridge. Parliament Square was cordoned off so running them over the Bridge and down Birdcage Walk would've been much less disruptive than going over Waterloo Bridge and blocking off the Strand, which was being used as the...

    FA Cup Final charter

Followed swiftly by the obvious joke that City don't have enough fans to fill up two trains!

    FA Cup Final charter

Interesting that it's only for City fans with no provision for United fans? Still, should be a relatively peaceful journey given the likely lack of other trains!

Docklands Light Railway - Thamesmead Extension (Discussion)

The DLR branch can be renamed the Misfits Line. Providing additional metro availability in a deprived area, I would assume. Quite a high density area with only buses to serve it - for much of the area it's quite a walk to the Lizzy Line.

East Lancs Railway protects reputation by sacking leading woman in a male dominated sector?

This is all looking very bad for the ELR. The blocking by the chairman specifically seems to be getting a lot of traction. Unless this is some form of elaborate lie, his position is untenable and each day this saga continues brings greater risk of wider media attention.

    Class 180 Adelantes leaving EMR

Are there any timetable reductions as a result of this, or will the difference be made up simply by running fewer double sets? Sounds like the corrosion happened 15 minutes after leaving the factory!

End of the line for return rail tickets

Sorry there’s one extra line in the article that gets cut out, which led me to think it’s LNER-only but you actually you might be right:

End of the line for return rail tickets

Story in the Telegraph today, not yet available online but it has made the front page (amongst the lettuce and the balloon): Big news seems to be: GBR will still go ahead Single-leg pricing being rolled out across the network? Commitment to Project Oval and possible ending of CCST?

What decisions could the UK actually take to avoid managed decline?

Regardless of whether someone might, or might not, want a car. Building car-free housing in highly accessible areas means those who don't need a car have a place to live, freeing up other housing for those that do. A parking space for every flat would increase both construction costs and house...

What decisions could the UK actually take to avoid managed decline?

An interesting trend I noticed in the past decade is the way Halls of Residence had to evolve quite rapidly. Big buildings with 20 catered students to a floor gutted and replaced with self-catered flats of 4-5. The rapid increase in living standards, too. Students generally expect high-quality...
