    Prettiest Stations in the UK

If we're including the Underground, Chesham is a very nice place to wait for a train.

Stations on the up (better now than they have ever been)

On a smaller scale, Motspur Park and Stoneleigh are due to get step-free access from both sides (they're both an island platform) imminently in the form of a new bridge with lifts. https://www.networkrail.co.uk/running-the-railway/our-routes/wessex/wessex-access-for-all-schemes

Crossrail - Through Running confirmed for November

True of course, but if you're at Stratford specifically then most of the Greater Anglia services seem to be listed as drop-off only there. So if you're a commuter from Goodmayes with an office right by Liverpool Street, for example, the only direct trains to Liverpool Street now take you to the...

Crossrail - Through Running confirmed for November

One question that I hope isn't too off-topic: Now that through running has started, how many trains go from Stratford to Liverpool Street High Level (excluding the very early / very late Elizabeth line trains)? Because if, say, you're a commuter whose office is very close to Liverpool Street...

Crossrail - operating discussion and opening day 24th May

Had a ride on the Elizabeth line today. Comment 250 mentioned the lack of signage at Whitechapel indicating how to get to from the Elizabeth line to the southbound Overground – I very much hope they put a sign in at the point where you need to turn left off the walkway above the Overground to...

Crossrail - operating discussion and opening day 24th May

Carto Metro has now been updated to show that the Elizabeth line core has opened.

    2024 Tube Stock (Siemens Inspiro)

Obviously this is subjective, but I much prefer the moquette that Geoff Marshall says won't be used (at 04.03 in the video) over the one that will be. I like the darker blue, and the lines all going in the same direction give a feeling of speed, somehow.

    Best tube route to Brentford

Apologies for taking this off-topic, but how is it difficult to get to Charlton? From King's Cross you have two main options: 1) Northern line Bank branch (though obviously not right now) to London Bridge, then a choice of trains to Charlton, or 2) Nip across to St Pancras and get on a...

Minor things on trains which irritate you

On Class 700s in the Thameslink core, you get the announcement: "We are now approaching [e.g.] London Blackfriars. Change here for the District and Circle lines. The doors will open automatically at the next station." I really wish they would change "the next station" to "this station". To me...

Trivia: Journey with a change quicker than the direct service

I haven't done this myself, but I think Wimbledon to East Croydon is quicker going via Clapham Junction than taking the direct tram (if you're allowing them as well).

Trivia: Stations that have never had a diesel passenger service

Stations like Meridian Water and Mitcham Eastfields are included, yes. What about Fenchurch Street and the c2c route?

Trivia: Stations that have never had a diesel passenger service

Hope this hasn't come up before. My local station, Ewell West, has (as far as I know) never had a diesel passenger service, having switched from steam to electric traction in 1925. I was wondering which other stations (existing stations only) can say the same.

Early morning through train Paddington-Greenford. No return journey.

I think it stays on the Greenford line to operate the shuttle to and from West Ealing all day, then it forms the 21.55 to Paddington.

“13 reasons why you will never see me travel on the London Underground’s Metropolitan Line

I very rarely use the Met, but I have to say it's probably my favourite Underground line. 1) It has new, fully walk-through trains 2) You can sit facing forward 3) It runs through Farringdon, my favourite station on the Underground network 4) Even if you're not on one of the peak-time fast...

    Football teams on trains

I was on that direct Grand Central train - there was more than one Charlton player coming back with us! A rather heart-breaking way to start the season that was, conceding a 96th minute winner. But we got our own back at Wembley :D
