  • Hi mate, had my managers interview on the 13th dec and got the word back that i was unsuccessful. Asked for feedback and they told me i had done some research on the company but i was nervous and my answers went on longer than required. Was my first interview in 17 years so was hard not to be nervous. had loads of stuff written on notes but to be honest forgot to mention half of them. So will be better prepared for next time, gonna keep trying from 19th june as thats when my six month wait is up. How did you get on?
Just got the email today mate I've got through to the interview stage, as surprised as I am delighted!
I think I only answered about 20 out of 36, god knows what I was thinking should have done all the easy ones quickly first, raging at myself. If I've failed then that will be why, cheers for all the help anyway!
I got to the 2nd last question on the mechanical, didn't guess on any questions as I am a mechanic to trade, which helped I suppose:) but don't know what my score was.....the thing I thought I mucked up on was the glop test, but must have done ok, because it's the weekend I doubt you will find out until Monday. It came up on the scotrail status part first, saying that I was successful on part interview then about 2 hours later I received an e-mail giving me dates and times for interview.
    hope all goes well...
Just not long in mate. Think I did well in the group bourdon, glop and dials tests. Did you get the mechanical one finished on time? If not how many did you answer?
Brilliant thanks for all your help, sounds like I've been studying the right things anyway! The flagpole one has got me thinking now but I'm sure I'll be fine once I see it written down. Will let you know how I got on and well done on passing!
Sorry I just noticed this message. Any idea how you got on yet? Any info at all would be much appreciated?
hi - yes i went to my local station i would also go to the station you have applied for..... you really need to make an effort here and i cannot emphasize that enough!!!!

look at it from their point of view - they are about to spend the best part of 100k training someone to be a driver and trying to decide if it should be you! make ourself stand out!!
and yes i did the 300 word essay, but that really has to be tailored to you so read the job spec and try and apply it on your circumstances - do not copy this from the internet.... that was the first thing they asked me!!!!!

there is some really good advice on this forum so keep digging!
Hi - this interview is fairly relaxed, its a time to show how much research you have done into the role of a train driver and about First Group. Hopefully you will have been to a couple of stations and talked to drivers or even a DTM. They will ask your life story both work and personal They will ask you also the standard questions like "why do you want to be a train driver" and "what can you bring to the role" They may ask about you strengths and weaknesses (but i did not get asked this). You will get asked about someone throwing themselves under your train so you need to get over the point that you have thought about this. My top tip would be to do loads of research and do some thing like a mini presentation on First Group over, bombard them with facts and figures and use up loads of time. they only allow half hour for this interview so if you can use up that time talking about yourself and First Group, then you won't get asked many more questions!!!
hope that helps and good luck!
