    National Train Driver Day

Surely June 9th would be more appropriate, George Stephenson's birthday.

What if the London & Birmingham and Midland Counties merged?

Possibly the Birmingham & Gloucester railway would have been taken over by the Great Western instead of the Midland

Non standard track gauges that were and currently used in the UK

The Southwold Railway in Suffolk was 3ft gauge, as was the Isle of Man railway.

Major Fire at Luton Airport (10/10/23)

The main airport approach road and part of Vauxhall Way near the airport are closed. Traffic all around Luton is chaos this morning, took me an hour to get to work instead of the usual 30 minutes.

Trivia: Craziest/Weirdest bus terminus locations in London

The Farmers Boy is in Kensworth on the road between Markyate and Whipsnade. It was a terminus on some journeys on the 364a from Luton and is still a timing point on Centrebus services 40 and 40a from Dunstable to Whipsnade.

    Luton disused platform/siding

Yes, it's the old parcel siding. There used to be a Red Star parcels office and a road van loading bay approximately where the taxi drop off point is now. I remember there were always a couple GUV parcels vans parked in the siding during the day, which I assume were picked up overnight.

    Amtrak Chicago to San Fransisco

I did this trip back in 2006 and my experience pretty much matches those above. One thing that surprised me is that every so often we would stop for a 'smoke break' and all the smokers on the train would rush outside for their nicotine fix. One break was at Winnemucca, Nevada, which really is in...

Trivia: Coaches used on local services

I often see a Green Line 757 coach on Arriva Luton local service 24/25 heading out of town in the morning peak. There are two large colleges on the north side of time and they run extras during term time.

    London to Calais?

Before lockdown I travelled from London to De Panne via Brussels using the Eurostar any Belgian station ticket. A relaxed journey with time for a leisurely lunch in Brussels.

Trivia: Longest time for route between two neighbouring towns

The Stagecoach MK1 service from Bedford to Milton Keynes via Luton Airport takes 2 hours 35 minutes compared to the direct X5 service which takes 49 minutes

    Train travel - unenjoyable

This was 'shortage of drivers' on Thameslink, what was particularly galling was that locals to St Albans & Luton were running more or less normally but all the Bedford trains were cancelled. My station is between Luton and Bedford

    Train travel - unenjoyable

You've described exactly how I feel. Things that put me off were a disastrous trip to Bristol this summer where I had to endure late and cancelled trains culminating in having to wait two hours for a train home from St Pancras when they are supposed to run every 15 minutes; the design of the...

    St Pancras Undercroft

In the 1950s my mother used to work there as a stock controller for the Ind Coope brewery.
