Looks a superb day out 40065 with all that classic WR haulage. In regard to the HST you are correct. 253 006, 43013/12 worked the 0900 Padd-Swansea/13.00-Padd/17.03 Padd-WSM/19.41-Padd. Thanks again for including the HST details in your moves.

Thanks again for posting. All very useful. 41001/2 were renumbered 43000/1 in late 1974 when the prototype train was reclassified as a multiple unit.

CW2 that gen is superb. Thanks for posting. It sounds like you don't have any more for 77/78 on the WR, but if you did and had time to collate it I would be keen to receive it. Thanks for the offer of the ER 1978 gen, but that is not needed currently. In regard to 252 001, it entered service...

Certainly in terms of keeping power cars on the right sets he WR were more diligent than the ER in the early days. Hope you have a few more HST haulages to post. That said I enjoy reading all the moves from years gone by posted here. The railway I remember as a lad in the 1970s.

Thanks for sharing the WR HST details from 6/1/78 much as 40065 did for 1/1/78 https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/back-in-the-day.183327/post-6569053 I appreciate not many are interested in vintage HST haulage but this gen is very useful to me. Thanks

I would be really interested to know the ID of the HST set or power cars if your recorded them. I appreciate not many bashers were that interested in "trams" back in the day, but 46 years later it would be helpful in my efforts to document the early days of WR HST working.

Teething issues that plagued the HST + MK3 sets

Diagramming is a complex business. Prior to 79 with the small extension of HST working to the far west, the WR only had Old Oak Common and St Philips Marsh to carry out HST "A Exams" required every 2nd day. Combine that with a dual fleet with sets formed with TRSB only and TRUB only (TRUK/TRSB...

    12th November 1977 - Help Please.

Thanks for that bit of info. Really helpful. I am pretty sure you are right it was 42068 not 42086 in 253 022. It was rare for vehicles from SPM trailers being found in OOC allocated sets and vice versa during that period.

Many thanks for that info. Every little helps. If anyone else can add anything relevant it would be much appreciated.

    12th November 1977 - Help Please.

Thanks 55002, I think I contributed to RMWeb thread. The fleet was relatively fluid 77/78 even though the WR was trying to adhere to the fixed formation concept. I have been trying to track those changes so am looking for actual observations of the sets in service on 12/11/77 to fill some gaps...

    12th November 1977 - Help Please.

45 years ago today so a long shot. Even longer when my question concerns HSTs on this date. I am trying to fill some gaps in my HST formation records. Did anyone on the forum frequent the WR on this date and record any HST formations, power car pairings or in the absence of the former, units...

Original HST timings on the West of England line.

From May 1980 when the 07.25 ex-Padd became an HST it ran via the B and H. From May 1982 it terminated at Plymouth and from October 1982 ran via Box to Bristol Temple Meads and down to the west country. The 07.25 terminated at Bristol TM from May 1983 when the first HST to Plymouth became the...

    Back in the day...

Thanks for looking. I commuted from Reading in the 1980s whilst working at Paddington. I regret not timing my morning commutes on the both HST and loco-hauled services, especially first thing in the morning, but feel sure I had some sparkling runs. The first up HST with a clear road all the...
