Unusual Station Name Lettering, Early 1960s Glasgow Electrics?

Correct. Although it only seemed to be stations from Glasgow to the West. Paul Strathdee posted a photo on Facebook showing the Black and Yellow signage at Queen Street. Don't know if this link works https://www.facebook.com/share/p/k23YSXLvMY8X2Guc/

Trivia: Bus routes that cannot use double decker vehicles

Pretty sure everything operating in Dumbarton Town centre has to be single deck as the railway rings the North and East sides of the town with low bridges. Dumbarton garage only operates single dockers.

So do I, just made a typo! Not as bad as the old Salsburgh bus, which ran for years with Airdire on the destination blind.

There won't be a massive crowd at this game, probably around 3000. This cup has become a contentious issue for supporters of the non Premier league clubs in Scotland, the inclusion of teams from Ireland, England and Wales is barely tolerated, but the Premier League Colt teams are also included...

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

So in my previous post I had worked out that it is approximately 150m from the bridge to the end of the platform, the current slope is 1:68, so the track drops 2.2m Southerners post indicates that a lowering of 420mm is required (say 0.5m) so a drop of 2.7m. By my calculations that requires a...

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

Was at Eastwood Medical Centre this afternoon and noticed at least one lattice structure in place on the Clarkston side of the Neilston line bridge.

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

I can't see how a new bridge could be built without demolishing buildings, I really is a tight location. Would it be possible to lower the tracks beneath the bridge and steepen the gradient between the bridge and the platform ends, this is about 150m. It is currently 1:68 around here, quite...

Did Beeching get it right in Scotland?

That is correct, when making the decision to electrify the Queen Street route rather than the Central low-level lines one of the factors taken into account was the more generous clearance margins available although subsequent experience with 25kV overhead operation had shown that earlier...

Did Beeching get it right in Scotland?

Beeching proposed a complete closure from Strathbungo Junction to Kilmarnock, including Barrhead and East Kilbride. After a strong and successful campaign East Kilbride was saved, so I suppose it made sense to keep Barrhead as well, also probably someone also had the foresight to see that the...

Trivia: Odd or Bizarre moments in the rail industry

Remember reading that one Although it was always thought that the line would be reopened. Passenger services over the Central low-level lines were withdrawn on October 6, 1964, but the formation and track and signalling were retained in view of the Greater Glasgow Transportation Study then...

25 years of the railways in Scotland since the Scottish Parliament reopening

Much as the improvements to internal rail services have been welcome, without a truly integrated public transport system these improvements will not achieve the aim of reducing the current reliance on car use. The Scottish bus service network is a shambles and the Scottish Government need to...
