Northern complimentary pass - Manchester Victoria to Whitby

I am not sure about the gap but I think it would be OK. As far as I can see then it is no problem getting to Whitby in a day as long as you get the 0920 from Leeds. This is a great scenic route and I have done the run to Newcastle a few times starting at 0615 Chinley. There is a couple of hours...

    Delay Repay

I was in this situation a couple of days ago and took a photo of the arrival time board just in case.

Avanti WC down the pan again

I was on the 2053 from Euston to Manchester this evening a nightmare journey. Was a 9 car rather than 11, left 10 mins late and very full declassified, lost time to Milton Keynes due to track issues, 2 freight trains were allowed to pass at Stafford. The final insult was we were stopped just...

What do you think is a reasonable expenses reimbursement if travelling on a two together railcard?

We get a princely £30 for staying with family. It was this amount 20 years ago so has degraded slightly. However the benefit of not staying in a hotel when in London is considerable for my sanity and well being.

Storm Babet disruption - Friday 20/10

The passenger trains were a long way behind because they were held at Preston Station for a long time so that is planned distance. If the passenger trains had been allowed to depart earlier so they were closer and the freight pushed into the loop life would have been a lot smoother for many...

Storm Babet disruption - Friday 20/10

Fair enough but if it could have found a loop and stayed there for a rest quite a few passenger trains could have passed by which seems to me to be the fairest plan. Of course that might not have been an option, I don't know all the loops available but it seems to have ploughed on...

Storm Babet disruption - Friday 20/10

I do not think that is quite true for South Of Glasgow/Edinburgh but further North for the red warnings. West coast looked like it would be OK and no warnings were at start of day for TPE or Avanti. The problem started with broken down freight trains initially.

Storm Babet disruption - Friday 20/10

You are correct however these were not flood issues but a broken down freight train (twice!!) that created the mayhem. Maybe there should be a procedure that allows a train to be created as well as stopped short in these circumstances.

Storm Babet disruption - Friday 20/10

My daughter is going to Edinburgh, made it to Carlisle and stuck for a while. TPE have very unhelpfully cancelled 2 through trains in a row as have Avanti. I just don't get why there can't be a way of getting a crew by car to the right spot for at least some of these trains. Total rubbish. To...

    Discussion about Renaming Tickets

The problem with the word advance is highlighted by those in my family who just want to have a journey and return without issues. No matter how hard I try they associate the word Advance with a ticket bought before travel e.g. a few days before to get reservation with an Off Peak return. They...

Metrolink pass on non-TfGM bus pass?

This is only if you have a Manchester issued pass. Somewhat unbelievably there has even been a fair amount of whinging about having to pay £10 train and tram since it used to be free. Ungrateful lot :s.

TIR for using the ticket my partner purchased me!

We often have that sort of problem travelling back from Manchester to Furness Vale which is off peak all day after 0859. If you go from New Mills Newtown, one stop up the line, then evening Off Peak restrictions apply same train. Often a discussion is required at Piccadilly or Oxford Rd. before...

TIR for using the ticket my partner purchased me!

Seems a clear case of assumed Guilty until proved Innocent without checking the facts properly to me.

TIR for using the ticket my partner purchased me!

That is most odd, I buy tickets for family members with a variety of train companies and wouldn't expect a problem at all with this.

    New National Rail website

Yes indeed a fine example of how to show the minimum amount of useful data in the maximum space. Designed in case you can't see very well and you have forgotten your glasses. There are some pages where there is very little useful information without scrolling. For reasons I do not understand...
